A week ago, hundreds of athletes took the Arvest Bank Theatre stage in Kansas City in hopes of becoming a WBFF Pro!

I am very excited to announce that several of the newly minted pros will be making their debut on Jake’s Take.

Up first, Muscle Model Karl Brown! He dedicated his performance at the U.S. Central Show to his friend (and fellow WBFF athlete), Candace Baier Goldsby and her child Harper, who was seriously ill.

Karl talked about how he got interested bodybuilding and overcoming the challenges that faced him while he was preparing for the show.

Jacob Elyachar: How did you get interested in bodybuilding?

Karl Brown: In 2002, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma cancer. It took away a lot of weight from my frame, as I was very active into sports. I continued my athletic journey through the cancer and after as it wore heavily; I knew it was time for a hobby change. I picked up the weights and also all my best friends were big football players.

JE: What is the biggest misconception that people have about bodybuilding?

KB: I think the biggest misconception of bodybuilders is that we all are too into ourselves.

JE: Why did you decide to compete with the WBFF?

KB: I originally decided to compete with the WBFF for the glam of the show and the fact that we get to actually pose after putting in all that work. After my first show, I did not go pro, but, I got great advice and there was never one Pro that I reached out to that did not answer back to me or just show me love. I start to feel the family vibe of the WBFF.

JE: What were some of the challenges that you faced during your preparation for the show? How did you overcome them?

KB: This year was definitely my toughest prep yet. I moved from Wichita to Kansas City. I had a new job that requires a lot of physical work and I had to tweak the diet. At times, I was frustrated but it was all worth it.

JE: What are some of your personal goals that you want to attain during this next exciting chapter in your career?

KB: I hope to one day be a WBFF World Champion. I also hope to start a fitness brand one day. I will chase these dreams I until I cannot run anymore.
