Welcome back to the latest edition of Jake’s Take’s New Music Reviews! We got a lot of new music to unpack, so let’s get this party started!

Diplo’s self-titled album featured an all-star group of collaborators such as Busta Rhymes, Leon Bridges & Miguel. (Album cover property of Higher Ground)

Diplo by Diplo

Music producer and DJ Diplo released his fourth album, self-titled: Diplo. After several years of experimenting with country and psychedelic pop, the three-time Grammy-winning electronic musician is back at his roots. For his fourth studio album, Diplo recruited many established and rising superstar collaborators such as Busta Rhymes, Kareen Lomax, Leon Bridges, Lil Yachty, Miguel, and Paul Woolford. Diplo is a solid album that will take EDM loves back to the dance floor.

Tracks to Download: “Don’t Forget My Love,” “High Rise,” “Humble,” & “Let You Go.”

Dolly Parton’s ‘Run, Rose, Run’ is the soundtrack that accompanies her new book that she co-wrote with James Patterson. (Album cover property of Dolly Records)

Run, Rose, Run by Dolly Parton

The Queen of Country Music released her forty-eighth solo studio album on March 4, 2022. Run, Rose, Run is a companion album to her novel with the same name she co-wrote with legendary author James Patterson. CBS News reported that the book focuses on a young country singer named AnnieLee who wants to break into Nashville’s music scene. With the help of producers Richard Dennison and Tom Rutledge, Dolly perfectly drops the listener into AnnaLee’s world. Dennison, Ben Haggard, and Joe Nichols also assist with the storytelling. Run, Rose, Run is a superb album, and I look forward to reading the novel in the future. A-

Tracks to Download: “Big Dreams and Faded Jeans,” “Demons,” “Snakes in the Grass,” “Women Up  (And Take It Like a Man),” & “Lost and Found.”

“Made Up Mind” by Bonnie Raitt

Next month, Grammy-winning blues-rocker Bonnie Raitt is expected to drop her eighteenth studio album, Just Like That. “Made Up Mind” is the album’s first single, and it feels like the “I Can’t Make You Love Me” legend is covering Sheryl Crow. Ms. Raitt’s vocals aged like fine wine, and her impeccable guitar work will satisfy fans. B+

“Bam Bam” by Camila Cabello & Ed Sheeran

Camila Cabello reunited with “South of the Border” collaborator Ed Sheeran for a spicy song: “Bam Bam.” The duo co-wrote the track with Scott Harris, Eric Frederic, Cheche Alar, and Edgar Barrera. The latter two produced the song with Ricky Reed. “Bam Bam” is spectacular! I loved the salsa-infused production, and “Bam Bam” does have an excellent Reggaeton vibe to it. “Bam Bam” does have the potential to be one of 2022’s top songs! A-

“Daytona Sand” by Orville Peck

Orville Peck’s sophomore album, Bronco, is getting closer to being released. The Canadian country music star dropped the record’s latest single: “Daytona Sand.” As I listened to the song, his vocals reminded me of the late Johnny Cash. Like the “I Walk The Line” singer-songwriter before him, Orville’s unique artistry and vocals will go far in the music industry. B+
