Jake’s Take’s New Music Reviews: Week of March 11, 2022

Artists to Watch:

Jake’s Take’s Artists to Watch is back! Here are some recording artists that are looking to shake up the music industry.

“Reckoning” by Arkells

Alternative rock band Arkells is gaining a massive international fan base with their impeccable sound. Their latest single, “Reckoning,” put an enormous smile on my face. Max Kerman commanded the group’s impeccable sound with his superb vocals. If Arkells play their cards right, they are on their way to join Coldplay and OneRepublic at the top of the alternative rock/pop-rock charts. B+

“YUH” by Chin Injeti featuring Iman Wamboi

Music industry veteran Chin Injeti toured North America with A Tribe Called Quest, the Fugees, and the Roots and co-wrote music with Aloe Blacc, Drake, Eminem, and P!nk. Now, he reignited his career by releasing new material. “YUH” shows the three-time Juno-winning musician collaborating with Iman Wamboi. The production is superb, while Iman Wamboi’s voice comforts listeners. The two questions popped up when I listened to this track: “Where has Chin been hiding?” and “Why am I discovering him now?” I am looking forward to hearing new music from Chin in the future.

“House of Cards” by John Orpheus

Author and singer John Orpheus dropped a new cover of Radiohead’s 2007 hit song: “House of Cards.” I loved his direction with the song as he infused Caribbean soul into the track. This song was splendid from start to finish, and it was one of the most memorable Radiohead covers I have heard. B+

“Soda Pop” by Lunikk

One duo that I recommend that you keep your eyes on is Bulgarian duo Lunikk. Consisting of Deni and Christina, Lunikk is seeking to break into the alternative pop music world. Their single, “Soda Pop,” is hypnotic from start to finish.  I cannot wait to hear their next single. B/B+
