The Masked Singer headed to New York City for its third week of competition!

So far, we have seen Medusa dominate the season as her powerful voice sent home incredible competition such as Gnome (Dick van Dyke), Mustang (Sara Evans), and Night Owl (Debbie Gibson).  Tonight, new competitors Polar Bear and California Roll hoped to send Medusa home without any souvenirs.

Did Medusa keep her crown? Or did we have a new champion? Meanwhile, did the Masked Singer panel (Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg) correctly deduce the eliminated performers’ true identities? Read on to find out!

In the pre-performance package, Medusa was in shock at beating Debbie Gibson. The clue package included a Scottish terrier dog and photos of Chris Martin and Buckingham Palace. Medusa sang Frank Sinatra’s legendary “New York, New York” for her chance to advance to the Season Nine finale. The performance gave me chills, and I was still on the Joss Stone train. However, there were hints of Fergie in the version. Jenny called it “the most unique performance in show history.” Countess LuAnn arrived with a clue that included a “bridge” and praised to be sharing the stage with The Real Housewives legend. Nicole thought it was Lorde or Shirley Manson. Ken suggested Susan Boyle, and Robin added Kesha into the mix.

The Polar Bear hoped to freeze Medusa’s winning streak as he walked onto the Masked Singer stage. His pre-performance package revealed that he is an NYC resident and included a lottery ticket, many flowers, and “a message in a bottle.” His singing was terrible, and I would have buzzed him (Oops! Wrong show!). However, I heard LL Cool J when he rapped. Theresa Caputo, the Long Island Medium, brought out the second clue, which involved an acceptance speech at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Robin guessed DJ Jazzy Jeff; Ken thought it was Diddy, and Jenny suggested Flavor Flav. Nicole concluded with Grandmaster Flash.

The California Rolls concluded the first round of competition. It was one of the best group costumes I have ever seen. The pre-performance package included “Snoop Dogg” and Dolly Parton caricatures and a wedding proposal. They sang Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” for their chance to continue in the competition. Their harmonies gave me chills, and I don’t know who they were! Ken compared them to a Broadway performance. Pizza Rat appeared to provide a clue that stated “5 Billion.” Jenny guessed the cast of The Lion King and Pentatonix, and Nicole thought it was the cast of Pitch Project. Ken thought it was the cast of High School Musical.

Once the studio audience and The Masked Singer panel voted, the Polar Bear was evicted from the show, while Medusa and the California Rolls prepared for the Battle Royale. Jenny doubled her guess of Flavor Flav; Robin guessed LL Cool J. Nicole also doubled her guess of Grandmaster Flash, and Ken also stood by his guess of Diddy! Nicole was right; GRANDMASTER FLASH WAS POLAR BEAR!

As Grandmaster Flash joined Teresa Caputo in the Masked Singer VIP area, Ken introduced the Battle Royale. Reigning champion Medusa sang “Uptown Girl” with powerful, bombastic vocals while the challengers delivered a great five-part harmony classic that certified that they were Pentatonix!

The panel voted to advance California Roll to the Season Nine quarterfinal sending Medusa home. Ken began the guessing with Susan Boyle, while Jenny thought it was Halsey. Robin suggested Kesha and Nicole zeroed in Lorde. Before she could “take it off,” the panel saved Medusa from elimination!

Next week,  The Masked Singer are celebrating the DC Comics superheroes!
