According to multiple sources including USA Today, Hollywood Reporter, The Wrap and E! Online, the American Idol: Season 13 judges will be returning judges Keith Urban and the heavily rumored Jennifer Lopez plus newcomer and former Idol mentor Harry Connick, Jr.

Here are my thoughts on each individual judge and what will be the pros-and-cons of having them on the panel:

Keith Urban: In all honesty, I thought that Keith did an okay job on the Idol panel last year.  He did not have the chance to bring his unique judging style that he had on The Voice Australia to its fullest potential, because he got lost in the antics of the flamboyant Nicki Minaj and the regal Mariah Carey.  Another reason why he was average was also gave lukewarm feedback, which confused viewers and made them discount the things that he said.   This time around, I strongly believe that he could give some constructive criticism but also continue to cheer on the contestants to the best of his ability.

Jennifer Lopez American Idol return

Jennifer Lopez: Idol producers may love her but the “On the Floor” singer has divided the show’s fanbase! Fans have not forgotten the way she treated several past contestants including Haley Rinehart from Season 10 and Elise Testone of Season 11.   In addition, a huge blow for Ms. Lopez’s image was her controversial performance in Turkmenistan, which was frowned on by the Human Rights Foundation.   So if you add up all these elements up, it looks like Ms. Lopez has an uphill battle in front of her this season.  The way Jennifer can improve her situation is that she gives HONEST AND CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK and not listen to Idol’s manipulative PTB (Powers That Be).

Harry Connick Jr.: This was probably the best decision Idol producers have made in Season 13’s pre-production! Compared to some of the people that were up for the role (will.i.am, Scooter Braun and Kanye West), Mr. Connick, Jr. will infuse something that has been missing in the past couple of seasons…CLASS!  I think we would see more Joshua Ledets and Haley Rineharts get through than any more Lazaro Arboses and Rachel Hales.  As an additional bonus, we could get more bickering between Connick, Jr. and potential in-house mentor Randy Jackson!

What are your thoughts on this “Idol” shake-up? Will you watch? Why or why not?
