By: Jacob Elyachar

The 2013 Grammy Nominations have been revealed!

In this article, I will break down several key categories and my thoughts on which artist or group will have an edge when the Grammys go live on February 10, 2013.

Record of the Year

This category is way too close to call because all of these songs are very memorable, catchy and are loved by music fans everywhere.   But I think that category is Kelly Clarkson, Fun. or Taylor Swift’s category to lose.

Album of the Year

  • El Camino: The Black Keys
  • Some Nights: Fun.
  • Babel: Mumford & Sons
  • Channel Orange: Frank Ocean
  • Blunderbuss: Jack White

Both Frank Ocean and Fun distributed strong freshman and sophomore albums respectfully and deserve this award but I think Frank Ocean’s compositions, collaborations and vocals could edge out Fun with this award.

Song of the Year

  • The A Team: Ed Sheeran
  • Adorn: Miguel
  • Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You): Kelly Clarkson
  • We Are Young: Fun. Featuring Janelle Monae
  • Call Me Maybe: Carly Rae Jepsen

“Call Me Maybe” is the Internet sensation that could win big but it is up against both “We Are Young” and “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” who have dominated the Billboard and iTunes charts.   But if I know the Recording Academy well enough, they might award this category to Miguel.

Best Pop Solo Performance

Grammy-winning darling Adele has this in the bag. Next!

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance

  • Shake It Out: Florence + the Machine
  • We Are Young: Fun. Featuring Janelle Monae
  • Somebody That I Used to Know: Gotye featuring Kimbra
  • Sexy And I Know It: LMFAO
  • Payphone: Maroon 5 & Wiz Khalifa

This race is a two-track race between the up-lifting Florence + the Machine track “Shake It Out” and Fun’s smooth collaboration with Janelle Monae: “We Are Young.”

Best Rock Performance:

If there are any bands that might have a chance to edge out the Boss on Grammy night, it could be Alabama Shakes and Coldplay but otherwise the legendary rocker might pick up his 21st Grammy on February 10.

Best Rap/Sung Collaboration

Either “No Church in the Wild” or “Wild Ones” could walk away with this award but the Recording Academy could give it to “Cherry Wine” to honor the late Amy Winehouse.
