One of the greatest singer-songwriters of all-time is the legendary Bob Dylan.

Through his brilliant lyrics and music, Dylan has bridged the gap between multiple generations to become an inspiring force in the music business.

After 11 Grammys, an Oscar, a Golden Globe and being honored by the Kennedy Center, Dylan will be releasing his 35th studio album, Tempest, which will drop on September 11.     This would mark Dylan’s second studio album that he has released in the 2010s but it is a vast improvement from his average 2010 Christmas album.

This 10-track album perfectly showcases Dylan’s capable abilities of being a musical wordsmith.    However, unlike a majority of his previous albums, Tempest dives into darker material such as murder, betrayal, death and destruction which can be heard on several tracks including “Pay in Blood” and “Scarlet Town.”   While many Dylan fans might question his motives of recording gloomier material, listeners can be able to imagine the vivid visions that are featured in the stories that Dylan weaves throughout this one hour and eight minutes album.

Another impressive item about Tempest are the musical arrangements that accompany the tracks.  There are both beautiful and dark melodies that will astonish music lovers.    If you listen very closely you can hear some of music’s most important riffs and lyrics in several tracks such as “Bad to the Bone” in “Early Roman Kings,” two classic Beatles songs: “A Day in the Life” and “Come Together” from Dylan’s tribute: “Ode to John.”

Final thoughts and grade: Bob Dylan’s Tempest could be considered one of the best rock albums of the year due to Dylan’s impressive lyrics, excellent musical arrangements and ability to keep the listener interested throughout this long album. A+
