Star Wars celebrates its thirty-fifth anniversary today.

This movie franchise changed everything in both the science fiction and fantasy genres in cinema.   If Star Wars did not become successful, then any future franchises including Alien, Avatar and the Transformers would not exist.

Jacobelyacharjournalist.com is honoring the six-film franchise by counting down the six greatest fights in Star Wars cinematic history.

6. Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Maul (Star Wars: Episode One)

One of the best fight scenes in the Phantom Menace belonged to the Jedi Knights as they tacked Palpatine’s first apprentice: the multi-horn devil Darth Maul.   This battle showed off fancy footwork and excellent dueling from all three actors.

5. Luke vs. Darth Vader and the Emperor (Star Wars: Episode Six)

This final Jedi versus Sith battle took place aboard the second Death Star and in the base’s massive throne room.   While Luke and Vader had their rematch battle, Palpatine tried to turn Luke to the Dark Side and when he failed, the Emperor used his force lighting to torture the remaining Jedi Knight.

When Vader saw the Emperor torture his son, his last act of redemption was to save him and kills the tyrant.  To watch this clip, click here: http://youtu.be/woFkIziqbw4

4. Yoda vs. Count Dooku (Star Wars: Episode Two)

If there was one scene that surprised Star Wars fans, it would have been the first time Yoda used a lightsaber.   Near the end of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, the Jedi Master confronted his old Padawan: the evil Count Dooku and after a battle using their respective knowledge of the Force, they battled with lightsabers.

3. Obi-Wan vs. Darth Vader (Star Wars: Episode Three & Star Wars: Episode Four)

These former colleagues clashed with each other twice during the entire Star Wars saga.   Once at the end of Star Wars-Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and halfway through Star Wars-Episode IV: A New Hope.   Both of these battles mean a lot to the franchise because they symbolize the “death” of Anakin Skywalker, the beginning of Darth Vader and the death of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

2.  Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader (Star Wars: Episode Five)

One of the best fights in cinematic history is the first epic duel between Luke and Darth Vader in Star Wars-Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.   While Darth Vader defeated his son in Cloud City and cut off his hand with his lightsaber, he also admitted a dark family secret that rocked young Skywalker’s core.

1. Yoda vs. Palpatine (Star Wars: Episode Three)

The ultimate battle of good versus evil in the Star Wars happened in Episode III-Revenge of the Sith.   This battle marked the only time Yoda battled the Emperor in the Star Wars saga.    The fight slowly evolved from a lightsaber duel that took place in the Galactic Senate chamber and to a battle of their knowledge of their respective sides of the Force.

While Yoda was forced into exile after the battle against Palpatine, this battle remains a fan-favorite to this day and the best battle produced in the Star Wars prequels: http://youtu.be/qJI7xEK2aXM

My husband is a big fan of Star Wars. He can tell you everything there is to know about it. I am ashamed to say that until I married in 2008, I never saw any of the Star Wars movies. But I do like them.
