One of the hottest summer concerts visited Kansas City’s Sprint Center.

Gwen Stefani’s This is What the Truth Feels Like Tour marks the former Voice coach return to the touring world.  While she performed three concerts as a part of MasterCard Priceless Surprises Presents concert series, the This is What the Truth Feels Like Tour is the first time in nine years that Gwen has traveled across North America.

It was also Gwen’s first time in Kansas City, and the “Truth” singer did not disappoint. The Voice coach’s Kansas City debut was full of excitement as she plowed through her songbook for an unforgettable 2-hour, 30-minutes concert.

Most of Ms. Stefani’s set list was comprised of her 2004 debut album, Love. Angel. Music. Baby, and her highly successful third album: This Is What The Truth Feels Like (which Jake’s Take named it one of the best albums of 2016…so far). Current hits such as “Misery,” “Truth,” “Used to Love You,” and “Where Would I Be?” generated moderate interest for the audience, but when Ms. Stefani performed classics such as “Wind It Up,” “What You Waiting For?,” “Let Me Blow Your Mind” and “Rich Girl” (the latter two with opening act Eve), fans’ ears perked up and sang along with her. Also, as a longtime Sprint Center concertgoer, I have never heard the venue explode until Ms. Stefani performed “Hollaback Girl” and to listen to all 6,000 concert attendees sing the lyrics.

Several future audience members might nag that Stefani went off stage several times to change clothes, but Gwen engaged her audience from the moment that she opened the show with “Red Flag” and never lost it.  Also, while several Top 40 artists have hardly acknowledged fans at their concerts, Ms. Stefani embraced her Kansas City fan base by accepting a cross stitch gift from one fan, took selfies with a set of sisters, and signed her name onto a longtime fan’s sick No Doubt tattoo.

Speaking of her former band, Gwen performed five of her band’s biggest hits including “Underneath It All,” “Just A Girl,” “Don’t Speak,” “It’s My Life,” and “Hella Good,” where we exchanged eye contact during the song.  I will never forget that moment as long as I live, thank you, Gwen Stefani, for making my incredible August…much more memorable!

Before Gwen took the stage, longtime collaborator Eve kicked off the show with the help of her DJ, an excellent drummer and four colorful and superb dancers that might give Beyonce’s squad a run for her money.  The Hip-hop queen and actress visited some of her greatest hits such as “Love is Blind,” “Eve,” “Satisfaction,” and “Tambourine.”  As she spewed out some incredible beats, Eve reminded people why she is one of the hottest MCs in the Hip-hop/Rap world.

Final thoughts & grade: Gwen Stefani’s This is What The Truth Feels Like Tour is an excellent ride from beginning to end. Gwen showcased her love for her fans and declared Kansas City, one of the tour’s loudest singers. For those of you who have the opportunity to see Gwen in concert, take the opportunity and see her! I promise you that you will have one of the best concert experiences of your life. Gwen, please come back to Kansas City and visit us soon. A
