The big winner of the night was Adele, who won six Grammy Awards and tied Beyoncé’s record of the most Grammy Awards earned in one single night.   But however the real stars of the evening were the performances.   Some of them were incredible but others…not so much.   So without further ado, here are the best and worst performances of the night.

The Best:

Adele-Rolling in the Deep

The best performance of the night came from Adele, who returned to the Grammy stage to sing in the first time in months.    This performance featured strong vocals from the British Songbird and is the Grammy moment that everyone will take away from this show.   A+

Sir Paul McCartney, Diana Krall & Joe Walsh-My Valentine

Sir Paul McCartney rocked the house as he sang “My Valentine.”  His performance showed viewers and the audience that he is pop music’s elder statesman.   This performance had everything from a backing string section to an incredible guitar solo from The Eagles’ Joe Walsh. A+

Bonnie Raitt & Alicia Keys-A Sunday Kind of Love

This incredible dynamic duo performed one of Etta’s lesser known hits: “A Sunday Kind of Love.”  Both artists’ voices perfectly blended together and this was a nice tribute to the late Etta James.  A

Jennifer Hudson-I Will Always Love You

Three years ago, Jennifer Hudson received her very first Grammy from her idol, Whitney Houston.   During the 54th Annual Grammy Awards,  the American Idol alum returned to the stage to perform a meaningful cover of “I Will Always Love You” to the late Whitney Houston.  A

Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band-We Take Care of Our Own

Bruce and his band opened the show with a rousing version of “We Take Care of Our Own.”  This segment featured impressive vocals and a superb string section.  It was great to have the band open the show.    A-

Bruno Mars-Runaway Baby

Bruno Mars and his band took the Grammy audience back in time to a performance that was reminiscent of a performance the late James Brown would had perform.  It was mesmerizing and Bruno delivered a strong vocal performance and the dancing was electric.   A-

The Worst:

David Guetta, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Deadmau5 & Foo Fighters-Dance Tribute

Everything seemed so out-of-place! This was a mess from start to finish.  While the Foo Fighters’ performance seemed to be the only good thing that came out of this performance.   C-

Nicki Minaj’s performance

Holy smokes! This performance was the worst Grammy performance since Milli Vanilli lip-synched their way onto the Grammy stage.   D

  1. I create a comment each time I like a post on a site or if I have something to contribute to the discussion. It’s a result of the sincerness displayed in the post I read. And on this article LL Cool J Opens Grammys With Prayer For Whitney Houston | Latest News Online. I was moved enough to drop a thought I do have a couple of questions for you if you tend not to mind. Is it simply me or do a few of these responses look as if they are written by brain dead folks? And, if you are posting at other sites, I would like to keep up with anything fresh you have to post. 2. is right, more or less. To crfliay: there are 30 Fields (General, Pop, Country, Americana, etc), and within each Field are 2-5 Categories (Record, Song, Duo/Group, Solo, etc), resulting in 78 Categories total to be voted on. The thing is, only those registered as NARAS members within each Category can vote there. For example, I am listed as a Songwriter, Composer and Vocalist, so those are the only 3 Categories, throughout every Field, that I can vote on. Either way, someone nominated us into the big Grammy hat, and once the ballot goes up, all members will vote in their Categories. If we receive enough votes, then we get onto the final ballot: the final round of voting for the five names in each Category, which results in what most folks think of as being nominated: you get to go to the awards ceremony and all that crazy stuff. So where we are now: just names in the first round hat. Still!! That’s exciting all on its own
