It is a pleasure to welcome singer-songwriter, and America’s Got Talent alum, Andrew De Leon, back to The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast.
For those of you unfamiliar with Andrew de Leon’s story, in 2012, he made his nationwide debut on the NBC talent competition. The self-taught singer sang “O Mio Babbino Caro,” which surprised Howie Mandel, former judges Sharon Osbourne and Howard Stern, and the entire Austin, Texas audience.
While Andrew was unanimously voted “Yes” to the Season Seven Judge Cuts Rounds, he messed up his audition, which cost him a place in the competition. Fans were outraged by Andrew’s shocking elimination and took to social media and asked the show to bring him back. However, redemption arrived in the form of Howie Mandel’s Wild Card. With newfound confidence, Andrew de Leon traveled to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and delivered one of the show’s greatest comeback performances of all-time.
Fans rallied and voted Andrew de Leon to participate in the Season Seven Semifinals. Sadly, he was sent home just one performance away from the finale. Since the time on the show, Andrew de Leon released a studio album: 2013’s Black Lights, which featured original songs and opera arias. He followed that up with the 2013 holiday-themed Christmas Lights EP and released three new songs in 2015.
Recently, Andrew de Leon dropped two new singles: “Bleeding Heart” and “I Need You Here,” which he lost the latter’s music video through SoundMojo. For the first time in seven years, Andrew de Leon and I had “A Conversation.” In this episode, Andrew opened up about being an independent artist, shared several life updates, and revealed if he would be open to competing on a future season of America’s Got Talent: The Champions.
