2012: The Ten Events That Will Rock Pop Culture, Part Two

The countdown continues as this author points out upcoming events that will take place this year.

5. TODAY Turns 60

 

Generations of Americans continue to wake-up with The TODAY Show.   The show offers the breaking national and international news and the latest developments in the political, health, technological and entertainment worlds.   On Friday, January 13, 2012, the show will celebrate its’ 60th Anniversary with trips down memory lane and surprise guests.

4. Music’s Big Year

 

2012 will be a huge year in the world of music.  Highlights include the Beach Boys and the Rolling Stones’ 50th Anniversary Celebrations, the Queen of Soul celebrating her 70th birthday in March and new releases from Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Nicki Minaj and The Fray.

3. The Avengers vs. the Dark Knight Rises-Battle for the Summer Box Office

 

Two of the biggest summer superhero movies that could clash for Box Office Supremacy will be in theatres this summer.  One film The Avengers will feature Marvel Comics’ biggest heroes come together to save the world from the forces of evil.   Robert Downey, Jr. ,Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Samuel L. Jackson star as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and Nick Fury respectively and the film will be released on May 4, 2012.    Two months later,  movie goers will be treated to the finale of the Christopher Nolan Batman franchise.   The Dark Knight Rises will feature Batman (played by Christian Bale) tackle Bane and Catwoman (played by Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway respectively).   The eagerly anticipated film will be released on July 20, 2012.

2. The London Olympics

 

The London Olympics will be one of the biggest sporting events of the year.  Billions of eyes will turn to the United Kingdom to cheer on their respective countries as they compete with other to earn the gold, silver and bronze medals.   Will Team U.S.A. take home more gold medals?  Find out on July 27, 2012 when the games begin.

1. The Presidential Election

 

2012 will decide who will control the White House, Congress and the Senate. In addition, the Democrats will gather in Charlotte, North Carolina while the Republicans converge in Tampa Bay, Florida for their nominating conventions.  But one question still remains unanswered: will Americans re-elect Barack Obama as President of the United States or will the Republicans be able to take the White House in November?
