One of the most popular radio stations is returning to the Internet airwaves this week.

Kcradio.com is an online radio station founded by Kansas City radio personality Kelly Urich, who, alongside his partner-in-crime Andrew Cook, promise to bring the best music to listeners for 24 hours/7 days a week.

The concept of kcradio.com began six years ago when Urich was thinking about trying something new in his career.

“I worked at numerous Top 40 stations in Kansas City, X106, Q104, Mix93.3, etc., and I was ready to move on.”   Urich said.  “I had the option of working for Sirius XM or doing web radio and, for me, sound is everything.”

However, there was one problem that the radio personality found with his Sirius XM option.

“Satellite radio is forced to use a small amount of band width,” Urich said.  “So that’s why the sound is inferior.”

That’s when Urich turned his attention towards his second option: online radio.

“I bought the domain to kcradio.com and we really made a splash.” Urich said.   “We were probably a few years ahead of ourselves and other web stations, but web radio is definitely hot right now.”

After being off the airwaves for a while, it was the online radio station’s fans that rallied together to convince Urich to bring it back.

“People have been all over me to bring it back!” Urich said. “We have a cult following that is very active.”

To prepare for their return to the Internet airwaves, kcradio.com took to social media and asked their fans about what kind of music that they wanted to hear and generated discussions about the inclusions of legendary acts (Aerosmith, Bon Jovi) and home-grown talent (David Cook, Sheryl Crow).

Hopefully, the interaction will lead to Urich and Cook to reach their two main goals for kcradio.com’s success:

“Our two main goals are to have fun and play some music.” Urich said.  “If we do those right, everything will fall into place.”
