Two of Los Angeles’ finest Indie bands hit the Record Bar in Kansas City for an epic late night concert.

Family of the Year kicked things off with a quality hour that showcased a strong positive vibe throughout their set.

Brothers Joseph and Sebastian Keefe and their band members: Christina Schroeter, James Buckley and Alex Walker had a great repore with the audience as I saw countless of heads nodding in satisfaction.    In addition, the band also had impressive instrumental arrangements and epic rifts that were sprinkled throughout the night.

One of the highlights of the set had to come from Sebastian Keefe’s outstanding drum solos.  Keefe’s playing was impeccable and he is definitely one of the best drummers in his generation and kept the band on track throughout their set.

The Mowgli’s 12-song set marked a homecoming for vocalist, guitarist and Kansas City native Colin Louis Dieden.   The band infused their Southern California charm into the packed Record Bar as they played songs including “Emily” and “Hi Hey There Hello” during the first half of the set.

As the band kept playing songs throughout their set, the group showcased its’ impressive vocal elements that ranged from a beautiful duet to an amazing eight-part harmony.

Besides their vocal elements, the Mowgli’s unleashed their infectious energy on the crowd.  Which brought out a lot of singing and some positive screaming, which was part of the band’s tribute to the Boston Marathon victims before breaking into their haunting hit: “Carry Your Will.”

The Mowgli’s shifted the concert into high gear as they rounded out their run with “I’ve Been Around” and their signature song: “San Francisco,” where they invited several concertgoers to the stage.

Final thoughts and grade: Both of these bands have bright futures ahead of them and put on a fantastic show that every music lover and Indie rock fan should go see. A+
