This weekend, Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza will transform into a haven for art lovers across the Midwest.

Since 1932, the Plaza Art Fair has become an important cultural event that introduces attendees to the rising artists of today.

So as you prepare for your trip to the Plaza Art Fair, here are the five activities you should consider doing while down at the festival:

See the artwork and meet the artists!

While this is an obvious activity to do, there are 240 artists that represent 14 different genres of artwork including both 2-D and 3-D mixed media, glass, jewelry and photography.  Also, if you like what you see…introduce yourself to the artists. There is nothing wrong with networking and I am sure that the artists would like to hear complements about their work.

Head to the Kemper Street Museum

A signature attraction at any Plaza Art Fair  is the Kemper Street Museum.  Since their debut back in 1998, the Kemper Street Museum has provided activities that would help the art lovers get acquainted with the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, which is right next door to the Country Club Plaza.

Kid’s Art Workshop

The Plaza Art Fair has activities for everyone! If you have aspiring artists in your family…take them to the Kids Art Workshop (which will be located across the street from the Apple Store).  Volunteers from the Kansas City Arts Institute will be on hand to lead youngsters in activities that include creating colorful string art.

Live Music

You know what goes great with art fairs? Live music! Every year, the festival attracts multiple musicians to perform on one of the three stages.   Among the performers that will be participating this year includes The Shanks, The Zeros, Band of Brothers, She’s A Keeper and the John McKenna Band.   Also, one of Jake’s Take’s favorite bands: The Strive will also take the INK Stage on Saturday.

A Glimpse into the Culinary Arts

Several of the Country Club Plaza’s best restaurants will be on hand to provide some incredible on-the-go meals that will refuel any art connoisseur.  Try a pulled chicken sandwich from Jack Stack’s, a Las Vegas Roll from Kona Grill or the lobster tacos from Zocalo!   All the dining booths will be spread out throughout the Country Club Plaza.
