It’s 2:00 p.m. on a weekday afternoon and like a majority of Kansas Citians, I change my radio to 610 AM Sports Radio to listen to The Drive.

For four hours, The Drive’s co-hosts Danny Parkins and Carrington Harrison debate the hot topics in the sporting world and talk commentary with some of the greatest names that have ever played, coached or reported on some of the most popular sports of our day.

In this edition of The Five Question Challenge, Carrington talked about his favorite segments on “The Drive” and shared his professional opinion the futures of two of beloved Kansas City sports teams.

Jacob Elyachar: Last year, “The Danny Parkins Show” transformed into “The Drive.” What were some of the challenges that you faced during the transition and how did you overcome them?

Carrington Harrison: Adding another person to the mix. Danny and I had grown a chemistry and flow to the show so adding another person was a challenge especially but through communication we made it work.  Another challenge was moving from middays to afternoon. It was a big jump in terms of expectations, etc. It was exciting knowing people were happy about the move, which made it easier.

JE: What are some of your favorite segments from the show? How do you implement them into each broadcast?

CH: I enjoy the Around The NFL segment. I like those quick fast paced segments.  I wish there was a way to do more of them but I see how it can be overload. We do some non-sports segments such as the Drive Jukebox and Therapy Thursday. I enjoy those. It gives us a chance to better show our individual personalities.

JE: What is the most difficult sport to talk about?

CH: Baseball. It is such a numbers driven game. You really have to be a diehard to crunch the numbers. It’s not difficult but it really requires a deep passion for the game and studying the numbers.

JE: In your professional opinion, what is the outlook for Kansas City professional sports teams for the 2014-15 season?

CH: I think the future is bright for both teams.  I do not know if we are counting Sporting here or not. The Royals had their best season since 2003 and there are reasons to believe this team can be better than a season ago with improvements to the lineup and potential player development.

I think the Chiefs are in a weird spot. There are reasons to be optimistic and pessimistic. The Chiefs seem like a team poised for regression. The team won 11 games this year…but limped to the finish and had the disappointing ending. I do like the Chiefs’ core of talent. I think they have a three-to-four year window of making something special happen. I hope they capitalize on that opportunity.

JE: Why should my readers tune in to “The Drive”?

CH: If you are looking for a show that blends sports, humor, entertainment, creativity, and life situations all into one this is the show for you. I think our show is a great blend of what sports fan care about and are talking about. I think if you give the show a chance, you’ll come away finding a lot you will enjoy.
