I am very excited to welcome singer-songwriter Loren Smith to Jake’s Take!

When I first heard Loren’s voice on his music video, “Beautiful Smile,” I immediately thought of the late soul man extraordinaire Luther Vandross. His velvet baritone voice is not only reminiscent of the “So Amazing” Grammy winner, but is the missing link that the music market needs today.

Before he released his “Beautiful Smile,” the singer-composer worked in the entertainment industry for years as a background singer for numerous artists and performed at Disneyland, the Special Olympics Opening Ceremonies and Universal Studios Hollywood. In addition, another single: “Break Free” was featured on The Today Show and its Vevo music video was viewed 20,000 times in two months!

In this edition of The Five Question Challenge, Loren opened up about the challenges that he faced breaking into the music industry and what his fans can expect from him as we move into the final months of 2015.

Jacob Elyachar: When did you get interested in music? How did that passion evolve into the desire of having a career in the music industry?

Loren Smith: Music was always playing at my house growing up so I have always had a deep appreciation and love for music. I had my first singing job in junior high and have not stopped since.

JE: Could you describe your songwriting process with my readers?

LS: Passion fuels my songwriting. I tend to hear melodies and lyrics simultaneously, and at the piano, I try to let the song flow without forcing anything.

JE: What are some of the challenges that you faced trying to break into the music industry? How have you overcome them?

LS: I struggle wearing too many hats, building support, and not getting discouraged. I am learning it’s all right to ask for help, and I remind myself constantly that I’m the only person that can stop me.

JE: What can fans expect from you as we move into the latter half of 2015?

LS: I’ve got new music and videos in the works, and I’m so excited to share more of myself with everyone out there! Follow @sanglorensmith on Twitter, Instagram and YouTube for the latest and greatest!! If you are a fan of “Break Free” or “Beautiful Smile,” you’ll love what else I have in store.

JE: If you had the chance to meet with aspiring artists who want to have a career in the music industry, what advice would you share?

LS: Create a solid team of professional people that share your vision, never stop working to better your craft, and hold tight to a support system of people that love you genuinely behind the scenes.
