When I first heard the Swedish arena pop band Hurricane Love’s latest single, “Nowhere to Go,” I was impressed with the sextet’s fiery sound and superb lyrics.

Two years ago, Nina, Rasmus, Johanna, Tobias, Magnus and Robin unleashed their creativity and love of music upon their country and they quickly spread their infectious melodies upon the world.

In this edition of The Five Question Challenge, the band talked about overcoming the challenges that they face in the international music market and shared which social media platform they rely on the most to attract new fans.

Jacob Elyachar: Could you please share Hurricane Love’s origin story with my readers?

Nina: The band was created in the early 2012. Before that we all had played in different bands and genres. Some of us came from the Blues, Folk, Jazz and Pop worlds. We think that is what has helped us to make a sound that we feel really represents only us. In April 2012, we wrote our first song together and since that we have written a ton of them.

JE: How long does it take the group to compose a track?

Rasmus: Sometimes it takes months, or it could take one hour. There are songs that we have been struggling with for several months, but once we suddenly change done little thing… the magic happens.

JE: What are some of the challenges that the group faces in the international music market? How does the group overcome these obstacles?

Johanna: We are always looking for possibilities to reach new fans and the Internet is a very important platform. Writing good music is essential BUT the most critical part is how much work you put into everything else. Our band is like having a full-time job. We have been going through a lot of rough periods but we have always come out stronger!

JE: How has social media helped expand the band’s musical career?

Tobias: We have been focusing a lot on Facebook, which has helped us grow our worldwide fanbase. We are now focusing on how to be there for our fans, to help them and always try our best to satisfy them. Without them, we are only a group of people making music that never gets heard, they are the ones who have taken us to where we are today!

JE: If you had the chance to meet with aspiring bands who want to have a successful career in the music industry, what advice would you share?

Magnus: Do not stress your progress. Take time to build up your fanbase and your sound! There will always people telling you to do this or that, but it is very important to ask yourself what YOU want before making decisions.
