The Celebrities That I Have Met

I have met many numerous celebrities when I was younger from the classic T.V. Batman and Batgirl (Adam West and Yvonne Craig) respectively at Kansas City’s Planet Comicon to Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Spike (James Marsters).   However this past two years, I was very lucky to have encounters with some major celebrities from the television, music and comic book worlds.

Kim Cattrall (Met in London, March 2010)

When I was studying in London with Syracuse University, I had the most unique opportunity to take a course on British and European Theatre.  In this class, my fellow classmates and I had the most unique opportunity to see numerous shows across London.   One of the shows was Private Lives starring Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall.    She rocked onstage and delivered an incredible performance.  After her final curtain call, my classmates immediately headed towards the stage door and we met the star.  It was so great, she was so gracious and I was the last person to get a picture with her.    Meeting Kim Cattrall was one of my highlights of my study abroad experience and I would love to see her again.

Hosea Rosenberg (Met in Boulder, May 2011)

One of the numerous highlights of my graduation weekend was not only graduating from college but I met a Top Chef winner and a Boulder icon.  When my folks and I were walking down on Pearl Street heading to one of the best restaurants in town, Salt, when we met three former Top Chef contestants Kelly Liken, The Chew host and Top Chef All Star Carla Hall and Top Chef Season Five Winner Hosea Rosenberg.  This was a huge treat for both my mom, who loves watching Top Chef and for me because I got congratulated by former CU students.    Later on in the evening, Hosea returned to talk to my family and I at the restaurant.  It was such a treat to hear him talk up close and personal with my family and I.

Patti LaBelle (Met in Tucson, September 2011)

This was one of my favorite celebrity encounters of all-time.  I was originally in Tucson, Arizona for my brother Aaron’s final Family Weekend as a member of the Pride of Arizona Marching Band.   After watching the band perform at Bear Down Friday, the entire band marched to the University of Arizona Performing Arts Center to perform for an audience waiting to see Grammy winner Patti LaBelle perform.  The band performed LaBelle’s hit: “Lady Marmalade, ” but little did the band know that LaBelle was actually listening to the Pride perform her song.  Before the band left, LaBelle greeted the band and said that she was moved to tears and enjoyed hearing them play.  I managed to track LaBelle and told her I was a huge fan and it was an honor to have met her.  She gave me a big hug and told me “It was an honor to have been met.”

Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale (Met in New York, October 2011)

New York Comic Con 2011 was a terrific experience.  I managed to mingle with fans and meet some of my favorite creators.  On Saturday, I was able to meet up with one of my all-time favorite creative teams: Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale.   Both of these creators have written some of my favorite stories including Batman: the Long Halloween, Batman: Dark Victory and Spider-Man: Blue.  They were some of my favorite creators I met while I was at Comic-Con because they were very personable and humble when they interacted with fans.

Ann Curry & Matt Lauer (Met in New York, October 2011)

If you are in New York City and are staying for a couple of days, wake up around 4:35 a.m. and leave your place by 5:00 a.m., you will be happy that you made that decision.   My experience with The TODAY Show was extremely positive because I get to meet people from across the country and the world with two common goals: be on television and meet the TODAY Show on-air talent.    They were extremely kind: Ann Curry gave me three different hugs throughout the time she was outside and Matt stopped and picked up my dropped planner before he posed with a picture with me.    This visit to Rockefeller Center made me more determined that I want to work in my field and thank you for the TODAY Show talent and crew for inspiring me.
