Many of American Idol’s alumni gave outstanding performances during their time on the show.    As the countdown enters the Top 10, these performances will go down as some of the best master class performances in the show’s history.

10. David Archuleta, “Imagine” (Season Seven)

American Idol: Season Seven came down to the battle of the Davids (Cook and Archuleta).  While David Cook eventually won the title, it was David Archuleta, who won the hearts of Americans after his touching cover of John Lennon’s classic “Imagine.”

9. Elliott Yamin, “A Song for You” (Season Five)

One of the best male vocalists that graced the American Idol stage was season five’s Elliott Yamin.   After some coaching from guest mentors Andrea Bocelli and David Foster, he delivered a master class vocal performance that made then-judge Paula Abdul cry and melted many hearts.

8. Melinda Doolittle, “Home” (Season Six)

The best female vocalist of American Idol: Season Six was Melinda Doolittle.  Week after week, she delivered solid performances including her cover of the Wiz’s “Home” that gave guest mentor Diana Ross goose bumps, made Paula Abdul cry and wowed Simon Cowell.

7. Crystal Bowersox, “Up to the Mountain” (Season Nine)

Despite having Ellen DeGeneres on the Idol judging panel, American Idol: Season Nine was absolutely boring.  The only contestant who made the show exciting that season was Crystal Bowersox.   Week-after-week, Crystal delivered impeccable performances but it was her final song that she soared and received an “Outstanding” from departing judge Simon Cowell.

6. Bo Bice, “In A Dream” (Season Four)

During Season Four’s Top Three Week, Bo Bice cemented his place in the finale with his gutsy a cappella cover of Badlands’ “In A Dream.”  This performance wowed the crowd, amazed the judges and received superb feedback from legendary record producer Clive Davis.
