Hundreds of thousands of pop culture aficionados are in San Diego, California to the entertainment industry’s biggest west coast party: The San Diego Comic-Con.  While we (along with the rest of the world) want to be there to partake in the festivities personally, Jake’s Take is previewing the four exciting days of fandom with the hottest and can’t miss panels.

Without further ado, here are the panels that attendees cannot miss during the first day of the convention:

DC-Meet the Publishers (Room 6DE) [11:30 AM to 12:30 PM]

Dan DiDio and Jim Lee, the DC Comics publishers, will kick off the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con with a special panel. The publishers will preview several imprints including DC Vertigo, the DC Black Label, and the DC New Age of Heroes.

Doctor Who: BBC America’s Official Panel (Hall H) [11:45 AM to 12:45 PM]

Attention Whovians! Make sure that you get up extra early and stand in the Hall H waiting line. This panel marks the first time that actress Jodie Whittaker will make her San Diego Comic-Con debut as the 13th Doctor.  She will be joined by two of her co-stars, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill.  Also, Doctor Who’s showrunner Chris Chibnall and Matt Strevens, the series’ executive producer are expected to preview the new era in the long-running science fiction TV series.

I had the pleasure of meeting John Barrowman MBE at the 2017 Planet Comicon in Kansas City. (Photo property of Jake’s Take)

Anything Goes with John Barrowman (Indigo Ballroom-Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel) [2 to 2:50 PM]

John Barrowman MBE is one of geek culture’s most celebrated icons. In addition to portraying fan-favorite roles such as Doctor Who and Torchwood’s Captain Jack Harkness and Arrow’s Malcolm Merlyn, he has conquered the international theatre world with his appearances in Anything Goes, Miss Saigon, the Phantom of the Opera, and Sunset Boulevard. He will take questions regarding his career. I highly recommend attending this panel.

DC: Geoff Johns (Room 6DE) [2 to 3 PM]

Geoff Johns made headlines earlier this year for stepping down as DC Entertainment’s President and Chief Creative Officer.  However, he will be focusing on creating films, television shows, and comic books focusing on the DC Comics characters through his production company, Mad Ghost Productions. Dan DiDio will moderate this panel as the Doomsday Clock writer teases his latest projects.

Dragon Ball Super Broly

Dragon Ball Super (Hall H) [2:15 to 3:15 PM]

Attention Dragon Ball fans! You might need to head to Hall H for this panel. Actors Sean Schemmel and Christopher Sabat, who voice Goku and Vegeta respectively, are expected to headline this panel that celebrates the latest chapter in the anime franchise.  They are also likely to preview the upcoming 2019 Dragon Ball Super film, which will feature the villainous Broly.

Breaking Bad: 10th Anniversary Reunion (Hall H) [4:30 to 5:30 PM]

AMC and Sony Pictures Television are celebrating Breaking Bad’s milestone tenth anniversary at San Diego Comic-Con. It is expected that a plethora of the series’ all-star cast will be at the convention to reminisce about the series that made Walter White a household name. Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Bob Odenkirk, Giancarlo Esposito, R.J. Mitte, Anna Gunn, and Betsy Brandt have confirmed that they will take part of the panel.
