Jake’s Take’s New Music Reviews: Week of Feb. 25, 2022

Artists to Watch:

Jake’s Take’s Artists to Watch is back! Here are some of the musicians and groups that plan to shake up the recording industry.

I Think I Met You in A Dream by COIN

Nashville alternative pop trio COIN kicks off this edition! The trio has earned praise from media outlets such as Billboard and Entertainment Weekly and expects to perform at Bonnaroo and the Governor’s Ball. Ahead of their latest album, Uncanny Valley, COIN dropped a three-set EP called I Think I Met You in A Dream. I truly enjoyed their Bee Gees-esque “Cutie” and their raved-about song: “Chapstick.” I think we are going to hear about COIN for a long time! B/B+

Elle Sera’s Little Fire is spectacular! (Album cover courtesy of Sarah Frost)

Little Fire by Elle Sera

I was immediately captivated by Elle’s enchanting voice when I listened to “Sunshine Twilight.” Throughout her EP, I asked myself: “Where has Elle Sera been hiding? Her music is unbelievably great!”  Little Fire showcases Elle Sera’s strength as a musician and songwriter that is very needed in today’s music industry.

Tracks to Download: “Sunshine Twilight,” “Never Give Up,” “Little Fire,” & “Simple Life.”

Zach Chruchill’s Heartbreak & Hope is a brilliant record! (Album cover courtesy of TREND PR)

Heartbreak & Hope by Zach Churchill

Orange County, California native Zach Churchill dropped his debut album: Heartbreak & Hope. The album is an intricate narrative going through how he survived his twenties. One of the album’s biggest standouts is its first (and powerful) song, “Bartender.” The track showcases how Zach overcame a heroin overdose. Heartbreak & Hope showcases how Zach’s songwriting is better than some Top 40 and adult contemporary recording artists. A-

Tracks to Download: “Bartender,” “Start Over,” “I May Be,” “Faithful Spouse,” & “Are We Still Here?”

“roses” by Alyssa Reid

Canadian pop artist Alyssa Reid dropped a new single: “roses.” This synthesizer-powered track perfectly sends listeners on a wild roller coaster ride. The lyrics are superb, and “roses” will get listeners dancing. B+

“Love You From a Distance” by Ashley Kutcher

Ashley Kutcher rounds out this edition of Jake’s Take’s New Music Reviews! She is developing a superb following thanks to 20 million views on TikTok and over 20 million independent streams before gaining the attention of Darkroom and Interscope Records. She dropped an acoustic version of the hit song: “Love You from a Distance” and gave me chills. Ashley is a fabulous storyteller, and I cannot wait to see what she does next. A-
