Jake’s Take’s New Music Reviews – Week of April 29, 2022

Artists to Watch:

Jake’s Take’s Artists to Watch is back! Here are the artists and bands that are making noise in the music industry!

Palm Springs for the Weekend by Devin Kennedy

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and producer Devin Kennedy dropped his EP: Palm Springs for the Weekend. As I listened to the extended play, I found out why Z100 iHeartRadio, American Songwriter, and MTV have been captivated by him. His style blends jazz and alternative pop in a superb way. If Devin keeps this momentum up, we could probably see him named one of this year’s breakout artists. B+

Tracks to Download: “Palm Springs for the Weekend,” “Poetry,” & “Follow Through.”

“My First Enemy” by Age of Madness

Age of Madness is one rock band that you need to watch. The band consists of vocalist Jeremy Jordan, guitarist and bassist Mikael, drummer Matt Graff, and violinist Sarah Charness. The group’s first single, “My First Enemy,” widened my eyes and made my jaw drop. It is incredible to see the Tony-nominated actor rock out. I am looking forward to seeing how this band develops because they can turn the rock world upside down. A-

“Dust After Rest” by Boychik

Composer, actor, and vocalist Boychik, the musical moniker of Ben Levi Ross, released a haunting single: “Dust After Rest.” As I listened to the song, it made me think that if Sia’s “Chandelier” was smashed with Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now,” “Dust After Rest” would be its child. I loved the orchestic vibe of the tune and am interested in seeing what Boychik does next. B/B+

“Push Me” by Cassie Marin

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Cassie Marin released a new single: “Push Me.” The electro-pop production, which includes hypnotic synthesizer beats, will make listeners dance in their seats. I could see Cassie dominating the EDM world this year if she drops more tracks like “Push Me.” B+

“Please Do Not Lean” by Daniel Caesar featuring BADBADNOTGOOD

R&B crooner Daniel Caesar is a Grammy-winning performer that has collaborated with superstars H.E.R. and Justin Bieber and earned the recognition of former U.S. President Barack Obama. His latest single, “Please Do Not Lean,” comes after a successful Coachella appearance. “Please Do Not Lean” is a fantastic piece of ear candy, and the track does have the potential to be one of the year’s top R&B tracks.

“Regular” by Don Knock featuring Teemanay

St. Andrew, Jamaica native Don Knock dropped his latest music video on BET Jams, BET Soul, MTV Jams, and VH1 Soul. “Regular” showcases his ability to breathe new interest with Reggae as the hypnotic production transports listeners to the tropical jungle. The song also features Teemanay, one of Akon’s top proteges. Like the “Don’t Matter” singer-rapper, both Don Knock and Teemanay have bright futures ahead. B+
