Happy #NewMusicFriday everyone! Welcome to the last April 2022 edition of Jake’s Take’s New Music  Reviews! We have a lot of music to unpack, so let’s get this party started.

Bonnie Raitt’s Just Like That… is one of the best albums of 2022! (Album cover property of Redwing Records LLC)

Just Like That… by Bonnie Raitt

Just Like That… is music legend Bonnie Raitt’s eighteenth studio album. The 10-time Grammy-winning recording artist tackled songs that she always wanted to record. Bonnie Raitt taught both music lovers and up-and-coming recording artists a valuable session in storytelling. Despite having one misstep in the form of the title track, the “Something to Talk About” musician hit a home run with this album.

Tracks to Download: “Made Up Mind,” “Something’s Got a Hold on My Heart,” “Livin’ for the Ones,” “When We Say Goodnight,” & “Waitin’ For You to Blow.”

Jason Aldean’s GEORGIA leaned more towards the country rock music genre. (Album cover property of Macon Music LLC)

GEORGIA by Jason Aldean

GEORGIA is the second part of Jason Aldean’s MACON, GEORGIA project. The album features ten original tracks and five live songs. Songwriters John Morgan, Hillary Lindsay, the Warren Brothers, and Rhett Akins were some writers who crafted this album’s songs. GEORGIA showcases that the “Night Train” singer is leaning closer to the country-rock music genre. The original songs are superb, but I wished the live tracks were not included as they disrupted the album’s flow. B-

Tracks to Download: “Whiskey Me Away,” “Trouble With A Heartbreak,” “Holy Water,” & “Rock and Roll Cowboy.”

Wiz Khalifa’s mixtape Taylor Allderdice was re-released on 4/20 and it was a waste of time. (Album cover property of Taylor Gang)

Taylor Allderdice by Wiz Khalifa

On 4/20, rapper Wiz Khalifa dropped a surprise re-release of his 2012 mixtape Taylor Allderdice. The “See You Again” performer delivered a mixed bag of an album. There were well-produced tracks, but the profanities sprinkled throughout the record soured my listening experience. Not even superb cameos from longtime collaborator Juicy J (who appeared on FOUR tracks) and ex-wife Amber Rose saved the album.

Tracks to Download: None

“Crazy Angels” by Carrie Underwood

“Crazy Angels” is the latest single from Carrie Underwood’s upcoming ninth studio: Denim & Rhinestones. The American Idol champion and Grammy winner co-wrote the track with David Garcia and Lydia Vaughn. The song is one of the “Two Black Cadillacs” singer’s most country-rock songs since 2015’s “Renegade Runaway.” “Crazy Angels” could be one of the album’s strongest tracks and will make fans wish that June 10 (the album’s alleged release date) come sooner. B+

“You Got The Best of Me” by Journey

Rock band Journey is releasing a new album for the first time in a decade. Lead guitarist Neal Schon, keyboardist Jonathan Cain, drummer Deen Castronovo, lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, and keyboardist Jason Derlatka dropped “You Got The Best of Me.” This anthemic track will make fans smile and mark a new chapter in the storied rock group’s career. B+

“Love Me More” by Sam Smith

Oscar and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Sam Smith is back! They dropped their new single: “Love Me More.” The song is a powerful ballad that the “Writing’s on the Wall” performer created with longtime collaborators Jimmy Napes and Stargate. A-

“Serotonin” by Tom Walker

Epic Records recording artist and BRIT winner Tom Walker dropped a new single: “Serotonin.” The song is utterly brilliant! I loved the music from start to finish, and I hope that “Serotonin” is a fixture on several Top 40 and streaming services’ playlists.
