Jake’s Take’s New Music Reviews: Week of May 7, 2021

Artists to Watch

Jake’s Take’s Artists to Watch is back! Here are some of the artists and bands that I believe could become some of the music industry’s breakout stars.

“Golden” by Chin Injeti featuring Thieves Like Us

Singer, musician, and producer Chin Injeti has had a long career in the recording industry. He has written and produced hits for Aloe Blacc, Drake, Eminem, Lecrae, and P!nk. Recently, he released “Golden,” a superb collaboration with Thieves Like Us. From the lyrics to the fantastic production, “Golden” is a spectacular listening experience that music lovers need to listen to. While this is the first time I heard of Chin, I am glad that a new generation is discovering his music. A-

I M U R’s “Sad Girls Club” will leave listeners in a techno trance. (Music video property of I M U R)

“Sad Girls Club” by I M U R

Vancouver, British Columbia trio I M U R is the next group to watch. The group’s line-up consists of singer-songwriter Jenny Lea, producer Mikey J. Blige, and guitarist Amine Bouzaher. Their latest single, “Sad Girls Club,” has a Billie Eilish and Finneas-feel to it, and the track’s production would leave listeners in a techno trance. I look forward to hearing more music from them.

Joy Oladokun’s “sorry isn’t good enough” is a superb track about dealing with broken relationships. (Music video property of Amigo Records, Verve Forecast, and Republic Records)

“sorry isn’t good enough” by Joy Oladokun

Arizona native turned Nashville transplant Joy Oladokun released her first single since signing with a joint partnership with Amigo Records, Verve Forecast, and Republic Records. “Sorry isn’t good enough” is the perfect song that encompasses a broken relationship. Joy’s superb vocals gave me chills, and I believe that she could be one of 2021’s breakthrough artists. A

“So High” by Kellie Loder

Juno-nominated singer-songwriter Kellie Loder rounds out this edition of Jake’s Take’s New Music Reviews. The Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada native released a powerful track called “So High.” Between the superb arrangements, the catchy chorus, and Kellie’s beautiful voice, “So High” will tug at listeners’ heartstrings. B+
