New Music Releases: Week of February 24, 2014-The Singles Edition

By: Jacob Elyachar, jakes-take.com

Do you prefer listening to singles to full-length albums?

Well…you are in luck!

This week’s edition of New Music Releases focuses exclusively on singles!

Shakira Empire

Shakira’s “Empire” is one of her best singles of the 2010s. (Album cover property of RCA Records)

Empire” by Shakira

The second single off of Shakira’s upcoming self-titled tenth studio album oozes of excellence. I love hearing the “Hips Don’t Lie” falsetto and I think that this single would be perfect for not only radio play…but also for gym playlists (especially CrossFit gyms).  Anyway, I would like to commend both Steve Mac and Ina Wroldsen for writing this terrific piece of ear candy. A

Wild Wild Love” by Pitbull feat. G.R.L.

I love some of Pitbull’s songs but there is something odd with this track! It feels like I have listened to the beats before…. after listening to the beats carefully…”Wild Wild Love” is basically Ke$ha’s “Last Goodbye’! Shame on you, Mr. Worldwide and your production team for fooling listeners! The only saving grace is G.R.L.’s vocals otherwise…go back to the drawing board, Armando!!! D-

Justin Timberlake Not a Bad Thing

Justin Timberlake’s “Not a Bad Thing” showcases JT at his finest. (Album cover property of RCA Records)

Not a Bad Thing” by Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake continues his domination of the music world with his latest single: “Not a Bad Thing.” It will remind listeners of vintage JT (see classic *NSYNC & FutureSex/LoveSounds) and I hope he plays this song while he is on tour.  A+

Bad Self Portraits” by Lake Street Dive

This song will leave listeners! Lake Street Dive has incredible vocal chemistry and they have an impeccable folksy vibe that put anyone in a good mood. I predict great things from this band.  B+

Claire London Sugar Sweet

One rising singer-songwriter to keep your eye on this year is Claire London. (Photo property of Claire London)

Sugar Sweet” by Claire London

There are a lot of great attributes about Claire London that would attract music lovers! She has an outstanding voice (why hasn’t The Voice invited her to audition!), her arrangements rock and her lyrics are catchy! I hope that someone gives Claire a recording contract soon! A-

I do not own any of these clips that are sprinkled into the article. They belong to the artist and their record labels.
