The ladies are taking over this week’s edition of New Music Releases!

Britney Spears Britney Jean CD cover

Despite Britney’s heavy recruitment of A-list talent including will.i.am, Sia and David Guetta, “Britney Jean’s” lyrics drag the high quality produced album down. (Album cover property of RCA Records)

Britney Jean by Britney Spears

Britney’s back! Her eighth studio album features an all-star group of collaborators that include will.i.am, T.I., Sia, Katy Perry and David Guetta (who either made vocal cameos or contributed songs or production elements on the album.  While the production elements are fantastic, a majority of the songs’ lyrics are not as deep as Ms. Spears promised us in earlier interviews this year. It would be interesting to see if which songs she might use for her upcoming Vegas show: Britney-Piece of Me. B

Tracks to Download: “Perfume,” “It Should Be Easy,” “Tik Tik Boom” & “Passenger”

Christmas, With Love by Leona Lewis

One of my favorite UK songbirds is Leona Lewis! While the rest of the world was able to download her third studio album: Glassheart, the US still has to wait for its version of the album. Christmas, with Love showcases why Leona Lewis is one of the X Factor UK’s best-selling alumni.  Her powerhouse vocals and brilliant arrangements of Christmas classics and new holiday tunes will make everyone excited about the holiday season.  A-

Tracks to Download: “One More Sleep,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Your Hallelujah” & “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”

Carrie Underwood Sound of Music

Carrie Underwood and Audra McDonald breath new life into the Rogers and Hammerstein classic. (Album cover property of Sony Masterworks & NBC)

The Sound of Music (Music from the NBC Television Event) by Various Artists

On Thursday, NBC will present a live production of The Sound of Music starring Carrie Underwood as Maria, True Blood’s Stephen Moyer and celebrated Tony award-winning actress Audra McDonald. The soundtrack itself is spot on and both McDonald and Underwood steal the album with their powerful covers of “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” and title track respectfully. Jake’s Take wants to wish the cast and crew of this production a hearty “Break a leg!” B+

Tracks to Download: “The Sound of Music,” “My Favorite Things,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” & “My Favorite Things”

Cried” by Candice Glover

The reigning American Idol champion released her second single: “Cried” last week and it is impressive! Fans will love hearing Candice’s bombastic vocals once again and I hope that Music Speaks comes sooner than later! A

I do not own any of the clips that are featured in this article. They belong to the artists and their record companies!
