It’s back!

Welcome to the very first edition of New Music Releases of 2013!

This week, I will review the latest singles from OneRepublic, Blake Shelton, Bon Jovi, Marcus Canty and the Saturdays.

If I Lose Myself by OneRepublic

The first single off of the group’s highly anticipated third studio album, Native, is an up-tempo rock song that shows off the signature sound that OneRepublic is known for.   “If I Lose Myself” will leave fans with strong feeling of excitement for the up-coming singles plus high expectations on the band for delivering a quality third album.   B+

Sure Be Cool If You Did by Blake Shelton

The winning Voice coach released the first song of 2013 on New Year’s Day.  “Sure Be Cool If You Did” is a very catchy hook-up anthem and Blake’s incredible storytelling will weave interest amongst fans.   Overall, Blake set the standard on how country artists should release their songs during 2013.  A

Bon Jovi Because We Can

Bon Jovi’s first single off of the band’s 12th studio album is the uplifting title track. (Album cover property of the Island Def Jam Music Group)

Because We Can by Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi’s first single for its 12th studio album is a strong mix of the sound from the New Jersey band’s last two studio albums: The Circle and Lost Highway.   Jon Bon Jovi’s vocals are incredible plus the lyrics are uplifting.  The only thing fans might have a problem with the song is that they could not hear Richie Sambora’s famous riffs that put the band on the map 30 years ago.  B

Used by You by Marcus Canty

I admit I had low expectations from the X Factor USA: Season One alum when I saw this song and I was right.  Even though I give Marcus credit, he sounds like a carbon copy of Usher, Chris Brown and Ne-Yo.   I really hope L.A. Reid helped distinguish his protégé during the This….Is Marcus Canty EP because Marcus does not bring anything unique to the party. C-

The Saturdays What About Us

UK and Irish girl group The Saturdays have landed in the United States and have released their catchy debut track. (Album cover property of Polydor UK)

What About Us by the Saturdays

Prepare for the next generation of Spice Girls, ladies and gentlemen! The Saturdays are an incredible quintet of amazing women from the United Kingdom and Scotland with impressive voices.   “What About Us” is an incredible debut song that will get you off of your office chair and onto the dance floor.  I strongly believe in this group and I think that they have a future in the U.S.  A

A couple of months ago, the Saturdays performed “What About Us” at the L.A. based cub TigerHeat.  To watch the performance, click here: http://youtu.be/XcbVK3FdGfE

I do not own the clips that are used throughout the article, they belong to the artists and their respective record companies.
