Over 2,200,000 viewers tuned in for the Season Two premiere that found the News Night with Will McAvoy team in hot water with the Atlantis World Media lawyers.
So how did the News Night team landed in the hot seat? The flashbacks continued during this episode.
Jim slowly began to get his presence acknowledged by the Romney Press Team, thanks to Hallie Shea (Grace Gummer), but while she helped him with access to the bus, she still considers the News Night producer as her competition.
Meanwhile, Jim’s former flame, Maggie continued to deal with the fallout from her break-up with Don. Worried about facing her former (and current) roommate Lisa (Kelen Coleman), Maggie found the YouTube uploader, Erica, through Foursquare and with the help of Sloane…tried to convince her to take it down. While Erica refused to do it, Sloane convinced her that she would be able to plug her blog on her Twitter account to her 400,000 followers. Unfortunately, that action did not stop Maggie from receiving Lisa’s wrath when she returned to the apartment and Lisa declared that their friendship devolved into “tenant-landlord.”
In addition to trying to regain control of her personal life, Maggie also tried to make her presence known as an African specialty expert for the News Night staff. Following a story closely, she teamed with associate producer Gary Cooper (Chris Chalk) on a submitting a story idea that involved the escalating War on Terror activities in Africa. After passing Mac’s tests and getting permission from the State Department, Maggie finally got her wish and prepared for a trip despite Gary’s warnings about a massacre that was near their area of coverage.
Newcomer (and Jim’s temporary replacement) Jerry Dantana also tried to exert himself to the News Night family. Still convinced in military expert Cyrus West’s potential news story about Operation Genoa, Jerry used every trick in the book to try to get a soldier to talk. At the end of the episode, he was able to get a guy named Eric Sweeney on the phone with Mac, who confirmed that Operation Genoa was not only real but also involved the U.S. Military using Sarin gas on civilians.
Elsewhere around the newsroom, Will lamented not celebrating his 10th anniversary at the News Night desk while covering the 10th anniversary of 9-11. In addition, Neal got in hot water as he was arrested by the NYPD about covering the beginning stages of Occupy Wall Street.
