It is a pleasure to welcome singer-songwriter Jenna Raine to Jake’s Take. The singer-songwriter received praise from Billboard and Refinery29 for her singles such as “Us,” “A Letter to Me,” and “Technicolor.”

Earlier this year, the former L2M member also wrapped a stint touring across the United Kingdom with pop duo Max and Harvey. Jenna will perform on the High School Nation tour from September 23 to 27 in schools across the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut areas. Also, she will release her six-track EP, Be Like You, on October 25.

In this edition of A Conversation, Jenna opened about her songwriting style, the lessons she learned when touring with Max and Harvey, and previewied her upcoming performances at Disney’s De Jour Festival at Epcot.

Jacob Elyachar: When did you get interested in music? How did that passion evolve into the desire to pursue a career in the entertainment industry?

Jenna Raine: Ihave always been interested in music.  When I was little I sang around the house and for my family.  I decided to pursue a career in music after I performed at my third-grade talent show – I loved being on stage and performing for everyone.  I got vocal lessons and it started from there!

Jacob Elyachar: Could you describe your songwriting style to my readers?

Jenna Raine: When I am songwriting, I make sure to write about something that has been on my heart for a while.  This way I know exactly how I am feeling and I do not struggle with finding words.  I start off by usually finding a melody on the guitar or piano and start singing random lyrics until I come up with some lines to base off of.  After that it’s a blur.  Once I am going, I’m going!!

Jacob Elyachar: What were some of the challenges that you faced throughout your career? How did you overcome those obstacles?

Jenna Raine: It was tough to be away from home and to leave my family and friends to travel across the country. I have gotten used to it though and have made friends all around the globe, which always makes the experience a hundred times better. My family does travel to see me perform most of the time, which has been amazing!

Jacob Elyachar: Recently, you had the opportunity to tour with Max and Harvey. What were some of the lessons that you learned from them that you will take with as you prepare for future live appearances?

Jenna Raine: I learned how important it is to talk during a show.  Personally, I am a huge talker but I never realized how important it was to have conversations with your audience.

Jacob Elyachar: You performed at the 2019 Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day and will be performing at Disney’s Du Jour Festival at Epcot. What does performing at these high profile events mean to you?

Jenna Raine: It is such an honor.  Disney has been making my dreams come true!  I am so excited to be performing at Epcot.  I am also bringing my family, including my two nieces along for the journey.  These performances have been some of the most significant steps in my career.

Jenna Raine just released the official music video for “Be Like You.” (Music video property of Jenna Raine)

Jacob Elyachar: As 2019 gets closer to concluding, what can my readers expect from you?

Jenna Raine: I released a new song called “Be Like You” today!  The music video was inspired by the question: “Would you want to be like you?”  I am so pumped for this one to be coming out.  I think that they’ll love it!
