If you were to go to Big City Comix and Games in Leawood, Kansas and ask them to look up my pull list, you would mostly find a bunch of DC Comics titles.

Yesterday, the House that Superman and Batman Built released their January 2017 solicitations!

Here are some of my recommendations on the DC Comics comic books should be on your pull list when the new year begins:

Justice League vs. Suicide Squad

The Justice League and the Suicide Squad will duel in the four remaining issues of a mini-series written by rising scribe and current Flash writer Josh Williamson with rotating art teams of Jesus Merino & Andy Owens; Fernando Pasarin; Robson Rocha; and legendary JLA artist Howard Porter.  Meanwhile, guest writer Tim Seeley (Nightwing) will take over Justice League with artists Carlos D’Anda and Christian Duce for two tie-in issues, while Suicide Squad writer Rob Williams will be joined by artists Giuseppe Cafaro and Riley Rossmo for issues 9 and 10 of the hit series.

Men of Steel

Legendary Superman creator Dan Jurgens will test Superman and Luthor’s relationship to the max as it will be up to the Man of Steel to defend his arch foe when Luthor goes on trial. But will he give into temptation into taking Luthor’s life as judge, jury, and executioner? Find out the answer in Action Comics #971 & #972.

Freeze, Batman!

All-Star Batman scribe Scott Snyder continues his tour of Batman’s iconic Rogues Gallery as he takes the Dark Knight to Alaska. Starting in the series’ sixth issue, the Caped Crusader will tackle his icy foe, the legendary Mr. Freeze, in the 49th state as Batman will try to stop the polar mad scientist from starting a new Ice Age! Snyder will reunite with his The Black Mirror creative partner Jock, as the superstar artist will provide the art for this story arc.

Oracle unmasked

Series creators Julie and Shawna Benson conclude their first explosive Batgirl & The Birds of Prey story arc! The new Oracle has trapped the Birds of Prey in a conundrum as the Birds must become their agents or have their private lives exposed to the public! Find out if the Birds will survive when the series’ sixth issue drops on January 11.

Batwoman Begins

For over ten years, Batwoman has conquered the comic book industry as one of the biggest high-profile LGBT superheroes of all-time. Fan-favorite creator Marguerite Bennett will join Detective Comics writer James Tynion IV in telling a tale that will highlight her as she tries to pick up the pieces from the Batman family crossover story: Night of the Monster Men.

Flash vs. Superman

The Fastest Man Alive will reunite with the pre-Flashpoint Man of Steel in the seventh issue of Dan Abnett’s Titans. Guest artist Lee Weeks is scheduled to provide the artwork as the Titans relaunch its iconic headquarters in New York City!

Wonder Woman goes insane when the "Truth" story arc begins in her solo title. (Artwork property of DC Comics)

Wonder Woman Gone Mad!

Wonder Woman may have celebrated her 75th birthday this year, but the mighty Amazon’s life has crumbled all around her! All the hidden truths and lies have reared their ugly heads and have driven Diana insane! Series creators Greg Rucka and Liam Sharp will explore the dark side of Wonder Woman when the “Truth” story arc begins in issue 15.

Justice League meets the Power Rangers

Two of my all-time favorite superhero teams will collide as the Justice League meets the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for the very first time. Tom Taylor will write the six-issue miniseries with art from Stephen Byrne. In the explosive first part, Zack finds himself up against Batman when the Command Center’s teleporter accidently malfunctions and transports him to the DC Universe. Hopefully, fans will also get to see some of DC’s nastiest villains team up with Rita and her goons! The first issue is scheduled to drop on January 11.
