The 2017 San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) is officially in the history books!

Hundreds of thousands of pop culture aficionados are traveling home from the San Diego Convention Center after spending four days taking in the sights, sounds, stars, and content that Hall H, Ballroom 20, and the SDCC had to offer.

Jake’s Take reveals the biggest secrets that were uncovered at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Dr. Manhattan is in the DCU

At Geoff Johns’ panel on Thursday, the DC Comics’ Chief Creative Officer revealed that the Watchmen powerhouse was indeed the mastermind behind stealing time from the DC Universe. Newsarama revealed that Johns did not want to Dr. Manhattan’s hi-jinks to overshadow the Barry Allen and Wally West reunion in the pages of the “DC Universe: Rebirth” one-shot.  Johns added that Dr. Manhattan would introduce himself  to the DCU in the pages of his upcoming November mini-series: “The Doomsday Clock.” The veteran comics writer will partner with longtime art collaborator Gary Frank for this project.

Marvel’s Inhumans go to war!

On Thursday, Marvel fans got a first look at Marvel Television’s latest project that focuses on the Inhumans! This action-packed two-minute trailer revealed Maximus (Iwan Rheon)’s plot against his family to take over Attilan and bring a war to Earth. Fans also saw glimpses of Crystal (Isabelle Cornish), Lockjaw, and an angry Medusa (Serinda Swan) confront her evil human brother. Marvel’s Inhumans’ first two episodes will debut in IMAX on September 1, with the series premiere on September 28 on ABC.

Grant Morrison returns to DC

Comic-Con fans were overjoyed to learn that legendary comics writer Grant Morrison is returning to DC Comics with two sequels on big projects. The Scottish writer will come back to Themyscira with the second volume to Wonder Woman: Earth One. IGN learned that Morrison’s return to the Amazons is indeed the second chapter in a trilogy. Morrison also commented and stated that his take follows Wonder Woman’s creator, William Moulton Marston’s early tales. Morrison will also reunite with artist Chris Burnham and Damian Wayne’s Batman in Batman: Arkham Asylum 2.

Farewell to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

IGN learned that comic luminaries Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill would return to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen for one final adventure. The six-issue miniseries is expected to tie-up all the loose threads from previous stories as Mina Murray uncovers the secrets of founding member Prospero. Fans can expect the first issue of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Tempest, to drop next summer.

Meet the Terrifics!

One of the biggest DC Comics storylines that will make a significant impact on the comic book industry is Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Dark Nights: Metal. This story is expected to make waves in the DCU. Metal will see the rise of a new quartet: The Terrifics. The team line-up consists of Mr. Terrific (Michael Holt), Metamorpho, a recently revived Plastic Man, and Phantom Girl, a representative of The Legion of Superheroes. Writer Jeff Lemire returns to DC Comics to team-up with artist Ivan Reis for this new series.

The Death of Superman & The Reign of Supermen

One of the iconic 1990s Superman storylines is about to receive a cartoon makeover! Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment will be adapting “The Death of Superman” and “The Return of Supermen” for 2018 and 2019 respectively. Also, fans will get to see the Dark Knight face Jack the Ripper in Batman: Gotham by Gaslight. Also, the Suicide Squad will make their first appearance in the DC Universe Original Movies continuity in their upcoming film: Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay.

Once Upon a Time’s new adventure

Once Upon a Time revealed their plans for Season Seven at their highly San Diego Comic-Con anticipated panel. Creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis and longtime producer David H. Goodman revealed that this season would focus on Henry (Andrew J. West)’s exploration of other story books and interpretations of classic characters.  Oncers also learned that Henry would fall in love with Cinderella (Damia Ramirez) and face off against Lady Tremaine (newcomer Gabrielle Anwar) and Drizella (Adelaide Kane). Fan-favorite stalwarts Mr. Gold (Robert Carlyle), Captain Hook (Colin O’Donoghue), and Regina (Lana Parrilla) will also play roles in this upcoming season.

Marvel Movie Madness

The Marvel Studios panel did not disappoint as thousands of Comic-Con attendees packed into Hall H for a plethora of announcements regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Up first, Ant-Man actors Paul Rudd and Michael Pena announced that iconic actress Michelle Pfieffer would play legendary Marvel character Janet van Dyne in Ant-Man & The Wasp. Next, true believers learned that Captain Marvel will not only be set in the 1990s but will also feature the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and introduce the evil shape-shifting Skrulls’ to the franchise. The audience roared with delight as Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, and Cate Blanchett joined the Thor: Ragnarok cast to reveal that the film will indeed take place on Asgard and Sakaar. Finally, Chadwick Boseman acceded to the cast of Black Panther to tease fans about the 2018 film.  But before anyone could leave Hall H, Marvel Studios treated the fans to new footage regarding the highly anticipated Avengers: Infinity War, which is expected to come out on May 4, 2018.
