Jake’s Take’s New Music Reviews: Week of February 5, 2020

Artists to Watch!

Jake’s Take’s Artists to Watch is back! Here are the recording artists that might shake up the music world.

Celeste’s Not Your Muse showcases a promising start for the R&B up-and-comer. (Album cover property of Both Sides & Polydor)

Not Your Muse by Celeste

Both Side Records and Polydor Records finally dropped Celeste’s debut album: Not Your Muse. The R&B up-and-comer earned critical praise after winning the BRITs Rising Star Award last year and her debut record shows her potential dominance of the R&B genre throughout this decade. Through her collaborations with songwriters Stephen Wrabel, Jamie Hartman, Sean Douglas, and Mattman + Robin, Celeste (full name: Celeste Epiphany Waite) showcased her superb songwriting skills and phenomenal vocals. I predict that 2021 will Celeste’s breakout tour to a new level of excellence. Bravo, Celeste and team! B+/A-

Tracks to Download: “Strange (edit),” “Tonight, Tonight,” “Stop This Flame,” & “Love is Back.”

CNCO’s Deja vu showcases the quintet’s superb presence in the Latin Pop world. (Album cover property of Sony Music Latin)

Déjà vu by CNCO

Latin pop group CNCO dropped its third studio album. The boyband (Christopher Velez, Richard Camacho, Zabdiel De Jesus, Joel Pimentel, and Erick Brian Colon) ‘s latest offering, Déjà vu, showcases the group’s solid harmonies and vocals. I was a little surprised that neither CNCO’s team or Sony Music Entertainment Latin decided not to incorporate any collaborations on this album as the quintet does well with a guest artist or two. However, I believe that CNCO will continue its elevation of the Latin Pop genre as their careers continue. B

Tracks to Download: “Tan Enamorados,” “Hero,” “Mis Ojos Lloran por Ti,” & “Solo Importas Tu.”

“Hotel” by Lauren Haze

When I first heard Lauren Haze’s “Hotel,” I was amazed by her powerful vocals. “Hotel” is a spellbinding masterpiece, and I am looking forward to what Lauren brings to the table next. A

Philmon Lee’s “Where Was Your Love” is one of my favorite tracks of 2021! (Music video property of Epic Records)

“Where Was Your Love” by Philmon Lee

Philmon Lee continues his meteoric rise in the music industry by releasing his latest single: “Where Was Your Love.” “Where Was Your Love” gave me chills. The combination of the superb lyrics, Philmon Lee’s extraordinary vocals, and stunning production make this song one of my favorite tracks of 2021! A+

“Drippers & Schemers” by Poni Capri

London, England native turned Atlanta transplant Poni Capri is one emcee you need to keep your eye on. Hip-hop and trap music lovers would be blown away by the David Sinclair-Black produced track: “Drippers & Schemers.” Poni Capri has superstar potential, and I believe that this track could be her “Bodak Yellow” and “Super Bass.”

POORSTACY teams up with Travis Barker for an epic rock track: “Hills Have Eyes,” (Music video property of 10K Projects)

“Hills Have Eyes” by POORSTACY

Guitarist, rapper, and singer POORSTACY rounds out this edition of Jake’s Take’s New Music Reviews. His latest single, “Hills Have Eyes,” is a brilliantly produced Travis Barker track that takes listeners on a wild ride in Hollyweird. The guitar work is superb, and I think that we will be hearing about POORSTACY in the months to come. B+
