Jake’s Take’s Book Recommendations-Summer 2019 Edition

Summer unofficially starts with Memorial Day Weekend! One of my favorite things to do is read a few books. Here are some of the books that I would highly recommend you read!

The Bookshop in the Corner by Jenny Colgan (First published in 2016)

The Bookshop in the Cornertells us the story of former librarian Nina Redmond, who leaves the library after the organization restructures. Nina decides to pursue her life’s passion by running a mobile book shop. Nina’s passion for storytelling takes her to a sleepy village, where she finds love and friendship.

Developing the Leader Within You 2.0 by John C. Maxwell (First published in 2018)

John C. Maxwell revisited his popular 1993 self-impact Developing the Leader Within You. To commemorate the book’s twenty-fifth anniversary, John C. Maxwell published his second volume. Readers will learn some valuable advice on how readers could be a better leader.

The Art of Influence by Ryuho Okawa (First published in 2019)

As a reader, I enjoy reading about subjects that challenged me to think. The Art of Influence is written by Happy Science religious organization founder Ryuho Okawa. While I am steadfast with my faith, Okawa’s gave interesting responses to his believers on 28 questions on how to improve their lives.

The First Lady by James Patterson & Brendan DuBois (First published in 2019)

I always enjoy reading a James Patterson book. The legendary writer collaborated with Brendan DuBois on the political thriller The First Lady. When the President’s wife is kidnapped, elite secret service agent Sally Grissom is assigned to track her down.The First Lady is an electrifying page turner from start to finish and readers will not be disappointed with this story.

The Vanity Fair Diaries: 1983 to 1992 by Tina Brown (First published in 2017; published in paperback in 2018)

Before she launched The Daily Beast and Talk magazine, Tina Brown was hired to revive Vanity Fair. In The Vanity Fair Diaries: 1983 to 1992, Ms. Brown takes readers behind the scenes during a period of journalism where she revealed the challenges of balancing her personal life with rebuilding one of the greatest magazines of all-time.  

Unmasked by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber (First published in 2018; published in paperback in 2019)

Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber is one of musical theatre’s greatest composers. In Unmasked, the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) Award-winning icon shared his origin story with fans as he reminisced that range from his childhood to The Phantom of the Opera’s opening night. Readers will also get the inside story on some of his legendary theatrical productions including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, and Starlight Express.

Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of The View by Ramin Setoodeh (First published in 2019)

Ladies Who Punch:  The Explosive Inside Story of The View was one book that I could not put down. As a longtime fan of The View, I loved reading this expose! I enjoyed learning about Barbara Walters’ time on the show to the Whoopi versus Rosie drama that followed in Season 18. If you are a superfan of The View, I highly recommend getting this book!
