Jacob’s Travels….The Grand Canyon and Sedona, Arizona

Aaron and I were in awe when we first saw the Grand Canyon. If you have not traveled to see the Grand Canyon, you should plan a trip. (Photo property of Travlang Travel Guide.)

I want to apologize to my regular viewers for not posting until now.  The reason why you have not seen a new post since May 12 is that I have been on vacation with my brother, Aaron.   For four days, we were at the Grand Canyon and Sedona, Arizona.     These four days that I spent with my brother were some of the best days of my life.

The trip started Sunday when my brother and I drove 340 miles from Tucson, Arizona to the Best Western Plus located near the Grand Canyon.   We drove up to the Canyon on Monday and walked towards the center of the Trail of Time.   When we got to the center of the trail, Aaron and I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time.   Before my trip, our father told us to remember the first words that you thought of when you saw the Grand Canyon for the first time.   Well, the words were “Oh My God!”

We were in awe seeing the Grand Canyon in all of its beauty.  There are no words to describe the feeling of seeing one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World in person for the first time after viewing many pictures of it for years.   We took tons of pictures and began to walk on the Trail of Time.    This route showed us the history of the Grand Canyon’s rock formations that can be traced back to two billion years ago.  Along this route, you will find different rocks that are part of the canyon and be able to learn more information about the Canyon’s history.

After we visited the Canyon, Aaron and I prepared for a sunset jeep tour, where we saw a heard of elk crossing the trails of the Kaibab National Forest.   We also saw hundreds of Ponderosa Pines and we learned about how Arizona’s drought that affects the growing of the forest.  Finally, we returned to the Canyon and saw one of the best sunsets that we have ever seen.

If you are traveling to the Grand Canyon, going on a tour is very beneficial.  Our tour guide, Rachel, led us across the Canyon to parts that very few tourists see without the help of a tour.    These parts were the Painted Desert and the colorful Navajo Reservation.    Despite the traffic that you might face on the way there, this is a perfect opportunity to explore the classic places you probably read about in your middle school history class.    Before we departed back to our hotel, Aaron decided that he wanted to Tebow at the Grand Canyon, in fact, he convinced Rachel, who reluctantly joined him on his quest.

We left the Canyon and drove 200 miles to beautiful Sedona, Arizona.   Traveling to Sedona, we encountered a beautiful natural forest that made us think we were in Colorado or the Redwood Forests and not in Arizona.   As we drove into town, Aaron and I encountered more red rocks than in Morrison, Colorado.    But we were excited to have a chance to drive on these rocks thanks to the Pink Jeep Tour.

The Pink Jeep Tour is Sedona’s most popular attraction for many reasons.   While many people would laugh at the idea of driving in a pink jeep, the vehicle made it easier for its riders to reach some of the highest rocks in Sedona.   The second fact that makes the Pink Jeep Tour so successful are the tour guides.   They are seasoned veterans who clearly know their geology and geographic history of the Sedona area.  In addition to that, the Pink Jeep Tour offers opportunities to take photos and walk on the rocks.

Both my brother and I were amazed with both locations and we highly recommend that you take the time and schedule your four-day trip.

  1. Hi Jacob,

Thank you for writing such a beautiful piece on The Grand Canyon and Sedona. I am in the planning stages for my family and I (kids ages from 10 to 6) to visit Sedona and The Grand Canyon early next year. We are planning on staying in Sedona for a few days then driving to Grand Canyon. Would you recommend we stay in Grand Canyon for a few days and Sedona for a few days? How long is the drive from Sedona to Grand Canyon and where would you recommend we stay.

    Thanks in advance.

    • Hi Deb! Thanks for liking my article! I really appreciate it! I would recommend that you stay in the Grand Canyon in two days and stay in Sedona for two days. The drive between the Grand Canyon and Sedona is two hours non-stopping and I would recommend staying at the Best Western Plus at the Grand Canyon! All the best! Jacob
