Warning! Spoilers are ahead!

Look out Justice League!   There is a new superhero team in the DC Universe!

In the inaugural issue of the relaunched Justice League of America, Geoff Johns and David Finch introduced the team members and also a threat that has not made an appearance since The New 52 relaunch: The Secret Society of Super Villains.

The issue starts out with a five years earlier flashback where longtime JLA foe Professor Ivo encounters a mysterious figure in London (who might be the group’s leader).    Fast forward to the present day, where an enigmatic superhero is being chased and attacked by robots that look like DC’s Trinity.

Meanwhile in Washington, D.C., Steve Trevor and Amanda Waller bicker about the purpose and the membership of the retooled Justice League of America.  After highlighting each member, Wonder Woman’s former lover meets and fights with Catwoman and gives her an offer that she could not refuse.

Once Waller and Trevor figure their team out and the Suicide Squad leader left the room, Martian Manhunter joins Trevor and they talk about the team.   However, when the enigmatic superhero arrives at the A.R.G.U.S. infirmary, it is revealed that Green Arrow was the one being attacked by the robots and tries to identify the Secret Society’s leader but flatlined.

Geoff Johns did an excellent job setting the pace with this story and with Green Arrow’s monologue plus Steve Trevor’s conversations/confrontations with Waller, Catwoman and Martian Manhunter.    It was great to see David Finch’s artwork has improved since his stint on Batman: The Dark Knight and he delivered some great spreads including a Justice League roster and how the JLA could take on the main league.

However, the only problem that I had was the coloring.  Sonia Oback and Jeremy Cox are incredible colorists but it seemed to me that it felt that the colors were smushed together.   Hopefully, they will improve throughout the run.

Final thoughts and grade: Despite the coloring issue, Justice League of America #1 is a great issue and should be the perfect jumping on point for readers interested in the upcoming Trinity War.  Things will be interesting when the Squad meets together for the first time.  A-
