A Conversation with the Score’s Eddie Anthony & Edan Dover

It is a pleasure to welcome The Score’s Eddie Anthony and Edan Dover to Jake’s Take.

Eddie and Edan met in New York City and after their success in the Big Apple, the duo transplanted to Los Angeles, where they were signed to Republic Records. Over the past two years, the Score has massed over 27 million views on YouTube and over 55 million Spotify streams.  Also, the Score’s hit song, “Unstoppable,” has notched 14 million Spotify views and been incorporated into a diverse group of broadcasts such as NBA games and HBO TV Shows. Also, “Unstoppable” has been used in several Paramount Pictures productions and was also the song that was used as the closing song for the 2017 box office smash: Saban’s Power Rangers.

The Score has a busy fall ahead. Atlas, the band’s first full-length studio album with Republic Records, is expected to drop on October 13. The album is supposed to include songs such as “Unstoppable,” “Legend,” and “Never Going Back.” Also, the Score will be supporting alternative rock band Blue October on the road. They will also be headlining a few shows with rock group Mainland in cities such as San Diego, San Francisco, Anaheim, and Phoenix.

In this edition of “A Conversation,” The Score’s Eddie and Edan talked about their latest acoustic EP: Stripped shared more information about their tour with Blue October and revealed their favorite social media platform.

Jacob Elyachar: Could you share The Score’s origin story with my readers?

Eddie Anthony: We met through a mutual friend in New York City. Both of us were aspiring songwriter/producers hoping to write for other artists at the time. We got our first major label cut shortly after that, but we wrote a bunch of other music that sounded more like a band and wanted to try performing it ourselves. We started booking gigs at venues in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, and it took off from there.

JE: What were some of the challenges that The Score faced breaking into the music industry? How did you overcome them?

Edan Dover: We still face challenges all the time. Not everyone is going to like what you do, and the industry is full of politics. We have learned to keep our head down and believe in what we are doing. If we are doing what we love and what our fans love, it tends to work out.

JE: Let’s talk about your latest EP: Stripped.  Why was it important to you to release an acoustic album?

EA: Edan and I do a lot of small performances, and we would have to play the Myths & Legends EP songs stripped in those settings.  It was just unrealistic for us to bring in a full band. We dug how the songs sounded in that stripped format though. It was refreshing to hear the songs shine more rawly, which inspired us to make the Stripped EP.

JE: This fall, you will be on tour supporting Blue October and headlining a few solo shows. What are you two looking forward the most about traveling across the country?

ED: Eddie and I are looking forward to playing in cities we have never been and meet fans across the country. We have a lot of really vocal fans on both Twitter and Instagram that will be coming to the shows so it will be great to meet them finally. We are also looking forward to the BBQ and hipster coffee shops. (Laughs)

JE: What are your favorite social media platforms that you use? Why do you prefer using that particular platform?

EA: Instagram is our favorite social media platform. It is so visual and also has the whole “story” element. It lets our fans have a glimpse into our everyday.  Lately, we have been having fun with the live stream feature.  Edan and I streamed a couple of songs from our show in Kansas City.

JE: If you had the chance to meet with aspiring bands or duos who want to break into the music industry, what advice would you share with them?

ED: Our advice would be to keep your head down and keep going, even when people say “No!” Making it in music is a marathon, not a sprint. It is always about the songs. Concentrate on songwriting and do not give up!
