One of Kansas City’s most popular DJs had a huge April.
With multiple gigs that ranged from his weekly Tecate Tuesdays at Sol Cantina to special events including the annual awards for both Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and the Helzberg Diamonds Annual Awards, Ashton was able to entertain a diverse audience everywhere he went.
April 2013 Highlights
Tecate Tuesdays
Ashton and DJ Highnoone continue to spin the hits from the 1980s, 1990s and today every Tuesday night at Sol Cantina. While you are listening to the two DJs’ mixes, make sure that you try Sol Cantina’s $1 tacos and $1 tecates.
Two Chic Blvd
On April 4, Ashton had the opportunity to DJ at Two Chic Blvd’s Girl Nights Out and Fashion Show in Overland Park, KS. Dozens of mothers and daughters heard some of Ashton’s mixes while they looked at some of the hottest brands in women’s clothing.
Mosaic celebrates their fifth birthday
Mosaic, one of Kansas City’s premier nightclubs, celebrated its fifth anniversary on April 6. Ashton joined fellow DJs Highnoone, Parle, JT Quick, Allen Michael and Spinstyles for a record celebration that attracted hundreds of people, who partied all throughout the night.
Budweiser Tailgate at the Kansas City Royals
Two days later, our favorite DJ spun at the Budweiser Tailgate Party at Kauffman Stadium before the Kansas City Royals’ home opener. “ I love working with these guys.” said Ashton. After the Royals won against the Minnesota Twins, Ashton spun at Sol Cantina’s Postgame Party.
KC Chamber at the Roasterie’s Bean Hanger
Ashton provided the music for the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Celebration at the Roasterie’s Bean Hanger on April 10. This excellent event also revealed the 10 nominees that are up for the organization’s prestigious Mr. K Award at the Chamber’s May luncheon.
The Gillis Center’s Spirit Awards
Ashton’s second awards reception of the month was at the Gillis Center’s Spirit Awards on April 19. The Gillis Center helps at-risk families and children attain their hopes and dreams through education, counseling and social services.
Ashton’s Birthday Bash
Our favorite DJ celebrated his 29th birthday in style as he returned to Mosaic and shared spinning duties with DJ Str8reppin. “I want to say a big thank you to all of my friends who came out and supported my birthday!” Ashton said. “It was an awesome turn out and I also want to give a big shout out to Cat and Vaughn, who came all the way from Minneapolis to celebrate with me. ”
Helzberg Diamonds Annual Awards
Ashton’s final awards show of the month belonged to the Helzberg Diamond Annual Awards, which were held at the Overland Park Convention Center on April 23. This was Ashton’s second time providing the music for this event and he had an excellent time providing the entertainment at the event.
Big Dude’s Music City
Ashton closed out the month at Big Dude’s Music City where he demoed the Rane Sixty-Two Mixer. After his demo, DJ Mike Scott and his students from the DJ INSTITUTE joined him.
What’s coming in May 2013?
First Friday at Method
Ashton will be spinning some tunes at Method KC Haberdashery on May 2 as part of First Friday at Kansas City’s Crossroads.
Cinco De Mayo celebrations
Come celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Ashton as he spins at El Patron Cocina and Bar’s Annual Cinco de Mayo celebration from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and at Sol Cantina’s after party.
Ashton at the Jacobson
Our favorite DJ will be spinning some of your favorite songs every Sunday at the Jacobson patio from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Rock the Block Fashion Show
Make sure you mark May 17 on your calendars! Ashton will be sharing the KC Live stage with Patrick Lentz, Better KC’s Kelly Jones and KC Magazine’s Executive Editor Katie Van Luchene for the 4th Annual Rock the Block Fashion Show.
DJ Battle 3 at Sol Cantina
Sol Cantina will turn into a DJ battleground on May 22, as DJs from across the Kansas City Metropolitan Area to compete in a spot in the Final Battle at the Jones Pool later this summer. Ashton would like to give a big shout-out to Rane for sponsoring the equipment that will be used in this battle.
Ashton at One Block South
Ashton will close out May at One Block South’s Milleu in Overland Park on May 31. Make sure you try Milieu’s menu that includes a Duck BLT, Kale salad and Chicken and French Toast.
