Jake’s Take is sending their thoughts and prayers to the families, friends and co-workers of WDJB-TV reporter Alison Parker and photographer Adam Ward.

According to CBS News, CNN and Yahoo News, these two journalists, both in their 20s, were murdered on-the-air by their former WDJB-TV colleague, 41-year-old Vester Flanagan aka Bryce Williams.

As a former intern for WDAF-TV FOX 4 News, KMGH-TV ABC 7 News and KUSA-TV NBC 9 News, this heinous act sickened me. Throughout my time as an intern, I learned the dynamic between reporters, photographers, anchors, producers, news directors, camera operators and interns.  News stations are families that are dedicated to share the vital information that their communities need to know to start or end their day. I am very thankful to have worked with a talented group of individuals and I am grateful to have been a part of their respective communities.

To learn that a disgruntled former employee would commit such a horrible act of violence on live television is extremely disturbing. If you encounter or know someone who is going through a difficult time in their profession or in life, please help them before they go over the edge and pull something like Mr. Flanagan did this morning.

As you go throughout your day, please think about the people who choose to work in the media industry as a profession and if you have the opportunity to meet anyone who works in this industry, thank them for their service and tell that you appreciate the hard work and sacrifices that face in their job.

Thank you for reading!
