A Word from the Publisher: Thank you, Royals!

Kansas City Royals celebrate

Like many Royals fans, I wished this was the image that I saw at the end of the ninth ending last night! (Photo property of Getty images)

Well, let me get this painful statement out-of-the-way first…Congratulations, San Francisco Giants on winning the World Series!

Unfortunately, for millions of people (including a bulk of the United States) did not want to hear or read that statement and wanted to see the Kansas City Royals and Kauffman Stadium come alive if they won!

For me, this loss left a very bitter taste in my mouth! Since 1988, I have waited very patiently to see this team win the Commissioner’s Trophy and watched sadly with embarrassment as the Royals were painfully labeled the “Laughing Stock of Major League Baseball.”

Because, I wanted to see this team win so badly…it brought out my bad sport side of my personality! I screamed: “the San Francisco Giants are jerks!” at my television and joined in the mischievous online catcalls of making fun at Hunter Pence and FOX Sports Anchor Joe Buck’s stalkerish obsession with Madison Bumgarner (which was the most unprofessional performance from a media professional I have ever seen in my life).
It was my parents, Gloria and Matthew Elyachar, who were a little appalled by my behavior that brought me back to Earth. They reminded me of how far the Royals had come and that we never expected to be in this position in the first place!

This season has been an unbelievable ride for the Kansas City Royals! I loved every single second of this baseball season! I will proudly remember watching the Royals win the Wild Card round and win the American League championship!

While the team may lose a few key pieces like Nori Aoki, Billy Butler and James Shields to free agency, I believe the club’s future is in good hands with Lorenzo Cain, Wade Davis, Jarrod Dyson, Alex Gordon, Eric Hosmer and Yorando Ventura.

Congratulations, Royals! You officially lost the title of “Laughing Stock of Major League Baseball” and now gained the worldwide respect of baseball aficionados and non-baseball fans alike!

Let’s do this again next year!

If you want to celebrate the Royals’ season, Kauffman Stadium will be having a celebration honoring the team at 11 a.m. today! For more information about the event, click here: http://m.royals.mlb.com/news/article/100040862/royals-host-2014-season-celebration-at-kauffman-stadium-tomorrow
