The GoAround’s Alexander Saddic is the latest musician to take the 5 Questions challenge.

Together with his brother, Anthony, this incredible Pop/Rock band will entice music lovers with their superb sound and great harmonies that can be heard on their debut album: Restating the Question.

The GoAround singer talked to me about the band’s origin story, their debut album and what his advice would be for aspiring bands.

Jacob Elyachar: Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

Alexander Saddic: Anthony and I grew up in the 1990s, which was the era of glam pop and that influenced our songwriting the most.   The acts that influenced us in the 1990s were Backstreet Boys, Christina Aguilera and Savage Garden.   As we grew older and were exposed to more music, Led Zeppelin had a huge influence on our sound.

JE: What is the GoAround’s origin story?
AS:
Initially, I did a talent show with a friend of mine and I was playing the guitar and he was singing.  People enjoyed it enough that we decided to start a band together.   Eventually, he lost interest in the band and I became the singer.  Occasionally, I would jam with my friends throughout most high school but Anthony joined me five years ago.    We did not get along when we were younger, so it was not until we got older and matured a little bit that we would talk to each other on a friendly level.   (Laughs) We switched band members so many times that I am the only original member of the band left.

JE: Could you please share your songwriting process with my readers?

AS: Essentially, I will write the underlining song and come up with the melody, basic guitar part and the lyrics.   I am a very simple musician.  Melody is the most important thing for me; I am not really technically skilled when it comes to playing the guitar, so I will write a very simple song and Anthony will take it and make the song more musically appealing.    I am more of the writer of the band,  while Anthony is the arranger.

JE: Let’s talk about your debut album: “Restating Your Question.” How long did it take to record this album?

AS: Due to the amount of rotating band members, we recorded the album multiple times with different people.  We also went into a professional recording studio to record the album, but in about six months into the recording, we had a falling out with the producer, due to musical ideas.   We stopped recording again and started to record the album on our own in our basement and that took us a couple more months and the finish product that our fans have is the recording in our basement.

JE: If you and Anthony had the chance to meet with aspiring rock bands, what advice would you share with them?

AS: Honestly, I would tell them that the most important relationships that they have in this industry is with other bands, the venue owners and the press.  Another most important concept that I would tell them is to not expect everything to be handed to them, they have to earn it.
