By: Jacob Elyachar

As I am writing this article, countless of people are en route or waiting in lines to attend the final day of the 2012 New York Comic Con.

While thousands of fans will be celebrating Spider-Man’s 50th birthday, meeting Elmo and Gordon from Sesame Street or learning about what the Joker has in store for Gotham City in the upcoming Batman crossover: Death of the Family, countless fans will be heading to La Guardia or JFK Airport to begin the long journey home.

Every time I attend a New York Comic Con, there have been some incredible announcements that have always added a jolt to the madness that is Comic Con.    Without further ado…. here are some of the best announcements that were made at the event….

Jim Lee 2012 Superman

To celebrate the Man of Steel’s 75th anniversary, superstar creators Scott Snyder and Jim Lee will join forces as a new creative team that will join the Superman family. (Artwork by Jim Lee and property of DC Comics).

Scott Snyder + Jim Lee= Superman

One of the biggest announcements that came out of the earliest moments of the convention was that the two superstar creators would be tackling the Man of Steel next year just in time for the Man of Steel’s 75th Anniversary.   I was in the room when the announcement was made and the whole room exploded when the new creative team walked through the door and joined the Superman panel.    However, they were not the only new creative team to join the Man of Steel family.

Diggle and Daniel take over Action Comics

Expect writer Andy Diggle (Daredevil) and artist Tony Daniel (Batman) to take over the creative duties of Action Comics starting in March 2013.  While they were tight-lipped on the actual plot of the story, Diggle told IGN.com that they would be carving up new adventures for the Man of Steel.

Deadpool versus zombie presidents

During Friday’s X-Men panel, the House of Ideas revealed that everyone’s favorite Merc-with-a-Mouth will have a new title and a new mission: save the country from zombified versions of previous deceased Presidents of the United States.

Guardians of the Galaxy return to the Marvel Universe

Marvel architect Brian Michael Bendis and artist Steve McNiven will blast readers off to outer space this February when they relaunch the Guardians of the Galaxy ongoing series.  The line-up will include classic members including Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax and Gamora plus new members including a new Star-Lord and…. Iron Man!    Fans will find out how the Armored Avenger will get into space in February when the first issue debuts.

Geoff Johns gets animated

At Saturday’s Batman: The Dark Knight Rises-Part Two panel, Bruce Timm and Andrea Romero revealed that two of Geoff Johns’ best stories of the 2000s: Superman: Brainiac and the DC Universe-changing mini-series Flashpoint will receive the animated treatment from the DC Universe Animation Original Movies.    Fans can expect Justice League: Flashpoint and Superman: Unbound to be released in 2013.

S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson

Clark Gregg surprised fans at the New York Comic Con with news that his character: Agent Phil Coulson was alive and will be headlining Joss Whedon’s “S.H.I.E.L.D.” series. (Photo property of Marvel Entertainment)

Coulson lives….

Fan-favorite character and S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) tragically met his maker this summer during the global blockbuster film the Avengers.  But fear not friends, both Joss Whedon and Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb revealed that Agent Coulson would return to the Marvel Universe and headline the S.H.I.E.L.D. television series that is due out next year.
