Starlight Theatre brought impressive shows to its 2012 summer season including the Tony-winning musicals including Memphis, In the Heights and Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida.

The 2012 Starlight Theatre season will close with the debut of La Cage aux Folles starring film and television veteran George Hamilton (Dancing with the Stars, The Godfather: Part III) and Tony nominee Christopher Sieber (Shrek, Spamalot).

Hamilton plays Georges, an owner of a glitzy nightclub in Saint-Tropez, France where his partner Albin (Sieber) moonlights as the glamorous drag queen known as Zaza.    However, their perfect life begins to be challenged when their son: Jean-Michel has announced his engagement to Anne Dindon, whose parents are the founders of an ultra-conservative group called the Tradition, Family and Morality Party, whose prime goal is to close drag clubs all across France.     So what will happen when Jean-Michel invites Anne and her parents to meet Georges and Albin at their house?

This tour of La Cage aux Folles is the first tour based off of its 2010 revival that won three Tony Awards, three Drama Desk Awards, four Outer Critics Circle Awards and the Drama League Award for Distinguished Revival of a Musical.

However, this is not the first time La Cage aux Folles was revived.   The 1984 hit show got another chance to impress a new generation of theatergoers in 2004 starring Gary Beach (the Producers, Beauty and the Beast) and Daniel Davis (the Nanny) and won two Tony Awards but closed on June 28, 2005.       In addition, the show has been produced on London’s West End twice as well.

“I’ve seen two Broadway revivals of La Cage and I laugh every time.  It’s just a fun, friendly show with great music, plus this production has the legendary George Hamilton and Christopher Sieber, one of Broadway’s best working actors.”  Denton Yockey, president and executive producer of Starlight Theatre, said.  “Take away the men in drag and it’s just a show about family.”

La Cage aux Folles will run from August 28 to September 2, 2012.
